When it was owned by the Midlands Authorities the leader of Birmingham (Sir Dick Knowles) under party pressure (Labour) supported anti arms fair protesters, when the NEC held an Arms Fair. At the time I was negotiating a move by the Royal Armouries from London to the city. The Board of the Armouries chose to move to Leeds instead.
