First Roe with new rifle [Remington 700 SPS S/S .223] [Scotland]

Hi
Picked up new rifle on 1/12/10. Remington 700 SPS S/S .223.

Have been up at my target trying out some new load's with VihtV N133, and got one that i am happy with 55gr Sierra Gamekings .3 @ 100yds,

So went for a stroll this morning to where i know there's a small family of Roe's that the estate owner is not happy with because of the tree damage they are causing, so they have to be culled or a few taken out.

Got the chance this morning and one Doe was taken from the group.

Nice one Black lab.

I use the same Gamekings with Varget and get very good accuracy. Same powder load i use 55grn Vmax for foxing really good results.
i like the 223

Hi Redneck,

I also like it, easy shooting.

Just been shooting crows for practice & at my target,

I traded in my .270 was getting to much £s wise reloading for Roe,s and Charlie ect,
so .223 from now on, and it,s looking good so far.

Cheer's Guy's for all the remark's.

Was out today giving the crow's a scare, until the blizzard started and put an end to the sport.

Nice one, it's a shame we can't use .223 down here... they can certainly do the business with the right bullet and load.

Who knows, when the firearms legislation is re-written maybe they'll allow it.... Whoa!!! what was that?

A flying pig :D

Aye, well done Black Lab.

I use a Rem 70 (19" barrel) in .223 for roe and fox with Sierra Gameking 55gn SP and 24.4gn of N133, very accurate!!

If you are up for fiddling about with reloads, you could try Hornady 55gn SP with 24gn of N133 - they are even more accurate (in my rifle anyway) which I did not expect as they are a flat based bullet and I prefer a boat-tail like the Gamekings. Zeroed at 45/206 yards they are only 1.38 inches high at 100 yards.

Hi E,
Will give Hornady 55gn SP's a go, am still fiddling about with load's ect, the Roe's dont like 55gn Gameking's but i do :thumb:
also bought Nosler 55gn BT's & Hornady 40gn V-Max for Foxes, but not used any yet, just out of hospital, operations on both knee's,
so plenty of time for reloading ect,
Cheer's for that.

Black Lab,

You may have a bit of a wait getting the Hornady 55gn SP (code # 2265 - you can look up the info on them on their website) - I have had 100 on order since autumn 2010. Dropped in at Eaglesham again on Tuesday to check if they had arrived - they are still on back order from the supplier.

Anyway good luck with the re-loading but with 0.3 inch groups at 100 yards you can't complain.

Ewich, funny you should say that. I have been waiting on Sako rounds coming in since last summer as well....real shortage of my preferred ammo at the moment......no end in sight either after discussions with several dealers.
