Darwin award. To me....

At least you’re still sunny side up! Sorry to hear your unfortunate news. Metal can be replaced, lives cannot. I’ve seen some nasty incidents of people trying to bump start cars/bikes and a guy nearly killed by his mate trying to tow a car out a ditch.
All the best and speedy recovery!

Feel bad for you mate, like others have said it could have been a lot worse, but I know how you feel. Getting yourself patched up is the most important but also the easy part, sorting the car and whatever else just looks like a huge pain in the backside. Just look at one thing at a time.
I'm sure if you need a hand with anything you would only have to ask on here. All the best.

Glad you survived the ordeal Finch, see these "modern" cars and vans that need power for everything - nightmare...… Trust you got head injury instructions from the A&E in case things don't improve? Are you going to claim on your insurance as the statement from you to them would be worth reading!:) Get well soon and back into the wilds!

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. You've helped keep the what-ifs and the why-oh-whys at bay.
Basically it was down to stress. Flat battery and a stuck car when I wanted to be somewhere was just one more bloody thing so I got fatalistic. F*ck it. I'm not having this. I'm getting this car out of here somehow if it kills me. Yes, well....
In calmer times I'd have removed the battery and walked away.

Couldn't sleep last night until about 3:00am. To painful as the anesthetic wore off. A little better this morning as long as I don't touch my face. Two black eyes and a nose that looks like I'm wearing a lion mask. Headache has improved though. My ears started hurting last night but that's passed.

Going to walk up the road later and put the battery on charge and see if I can move the thing. Not sure if the radiator is intact. Doubt it. It might have to sit there til Monday but I'll try and get the rest of my belongings out of it.

Then I've got a carcass hanging up on the garage that needs skinning. Must do that today. If it goes off I can't dispose of it.

You've helped keep the what-ifs and the why-oh-whys at bay.

All of which are useless, and not worth holding on to. You're alive and - apart from the headache - it looks like you'll stay that way (this time!). The rest is just bent metal that can either be fixed or replaced. And dented pride :)

I've got a Ranger pickup you can borrow if it's of any use, but there may be someone closer than Norwich with a spare set of wheels who could also help.

I’m glad you were able to walk away.

My youngest brother does the type of outdoor work. He is fearless and headstrong enough that he’d probably have tried to bump his truck too.

Good luck getting back on your feet!

Finch: You do know that this outpouring of sympathy from your fellow shooting/country folk, will soon turn into unadulterated pi*s taking.............Don’t you!

Of course. Steep slopes and rabbit holes are going to keep cropping up I suspect.

Just got back from emptying the car. Rad look intact. Not sure about the intercooler but power steering pipes are sheered and front end bodywork is trashed.

Looks alright underneath but even if I could fix it myself, the amount of bodywork needed probably isn't worth it. It's a ****er, I liked that car.

On the plus side, when I cleared it out I found three toilet under the seat. If I put those on ebay they'd probably buy me a new truck.

That's a very kind offer. Norwich might be a little far from from Dorset but I'll bear it in mind. Haven't checked the insurance yet but I'd be very surprised if it's covered. And if it is they'd almost certainly write it off as it's too old.

My head aches and my broken nose is blocked. It's disconcerting because it feels like I'm coming down with something and I can't tell whether it's the injuries or something worse.
