Stalking locked down?

I used to work in an abattoir. People standing a metre apart on the line. Won't take long for the virus to spread through that.

I suggest you listen again to what was said: Solitary exercise was stated to be a justification for leaving home & you don't get more solitary than up the hills with a rifle.
do pressups or running on the spot in your garden if you want exercise no carrying on your life as normal. What do they say 'speed of a racehorse, strength of a carthorse, brains of a rockinghorse.'

Stay at home, Stay at home. But if the government regulation has caused you to lose your job and now you have 6 months of lockdown with no job and the landlord throws you out? Well where is home now the street, a tent? How does one stay at home if you are homeless?

That is the issue facing a lot of people.
But as you advocate, selfish stalking, will it avoid your personal disaster scenario? .... I too have already lost gainful employ, but stalking is going to be a distant memory if people won't or can't see sense.

For how long can people live rent free, how long can you live rent free and no food because you have no income? How long before the economy can restart when businesses have collapsed overnight and there is no work if you come out on the other side?

I don't hear any politicians discussing this, much other than a stimulus. Well a stimulus can only go so far when the interest rates are almost zero. There will be billions of people on the unemployment line after this and that will be a cause of civil unrest.
In the UK goverment are putting measures in place to provide financial support and prevent people being made homeless. If it comes to living in a tent then it's better than being dead in a wooden overcoat 6ft under.

This is one of the times that is making history, such as the black death and Spanish flue.

Most people will do something courageous or extraordinary to save lives. All we need to do is stay at home, follow recommend hygiene practices and social distance. It's easy and simple

Nope, just funerals
I dont really agree with the government still allowing funerals. I know it may sound harsh but we can't do much for the dead. I have a brother in law who has been like a second dad, he has terminal cancer and is in a very poor state. I live 250 miles away and if he goes during this cv situation then i wont go to his funeral. This is for the safety of everyone

The supermarkets are all still open,
butchers shops are all still open too
thank god!

So what does lock down and social distancing mean?

Is it safer to visit a germ filled supermarket to buy meat as oppose to harvesting your own meat, totally alone and away from any other human contact?

I appreciate there are issues as regards human contact at game dealers, so selling carcasses is a non starter.

However out of interest to the "armchair experts" on here, what qualifies farmers and abattoirs to still continue to operate as normal, over the likes of deer stalkers and game dealers? What is the difference?

I'm not arguing the lock down decision, and I shall abide it, but common sense needs to prevail too.

The abattoirs all have multiple staff working together, they also meet with farmers as they drop off livestock. This is essential for putting meat into the human food chain. Yet people on here are happy to say the venison trade is not as important and can wait?

Perhaps it is? As it does not feed the majority of the population? It's a difficult decision but my rifles are going away for a while until it blows over!

It disappoints me to read so many negative posts about people taking deer for their own consumption for the table during this alarming time.

Many people on here are too quick to make assumptions and judge about others circumstances, particularly what they can afford etc.

I certainly treat meat as a luxury. I have a tight budget to feed a family of 4 on. If I didn't trade venison for other meat we'd just eat venison and supermarket chicken.

Its funny how the same people that are happy to agree that we only buy pre pack meat in the supermarkets during this lock down period are also whingeing about the new influx of farmed NZ Venison that has taken over the uk market well before Coronavirus.

I am not being funny but do people not have venison and other game in the freezers, other foods, I know i have and to me it is just an excuse to get out, if you were really desperate and you did not have anything you wouldn't post about it you would quietly slip out and shoot a beast and bring it home, end of. most people I am betting have enough food for at least one week to not have to leave the house.
if you truly have no food and need the supermarket and are worried about contamination, wear a mask disposable gloves don't use a trolley, use the bags that replaced the plastic carrier bags instead, use the delivery services from veg shops and the likes for small deliveries, go late on a night when most people are not there instead of peak times, there are lots of ways to limit the risk, i am coming from having nhs members of family and a wife who's had major surgery this week so limit my risks as much as possible to help those most at risk, regards wayne.

landlords can't throw you out, mortgages can go on hold, if people just adhere to this it will be easier and far better for people, if people carry on then it will only be far worse, this has shown me how selfish some people really are and also how blinkered they are.
I am a landlord, one of my tenants was laid off yesterday his wife was in tears on the phone to me late last night. Both over 60 with no savings and they both did lots of smoking drinking ignoring the future over the years so not super responsible folk, it"s not my fault but I cannot and would not ask them to leave.
Hope there is some package available for such cases but either way my life will go on.
Preparing for incoming, putting extra foil on my hat..

For me it's not about having enough meat for the week. More the next 4 months. I have very little venison left in the freezer and 2 partridges. At this time of year I shoot a couple or 3 end of season Hinds for the freezer, for myself and family members. Ive gone and left it too late, Unfortunately I haven't managed this in March and the season is nearly at an end. I normally keep some of the venison and trade some for beef and lamb that will last us several months. This is not going to happen now as the season will have finished before I can get out again. Our shopping budget is a very tight one, and managed scrupulously. It's already just increased due to not being able to get half of the stuff we need in Aldi due to inconsiderate panic buyers. As a result we are now spending over budget in other more expensive supermarkets and also making more frequent visits to try and find what we need. Meat that has never previously factored into our budget apart from chicken is now going to be an expensive addition to our food spending until August arrives and I can shoot a deer again. Several of my family members are also NHS workers including my wife. We both have elderly parents who are classed as high risk and are having to do all their shopping too. The supermarket delivery slots are nion impossible to get a slot for. So in the grand scheme of things for my own personal situation and for many others food wise its pretty naff, just something we will all have to put up with unfortunately. I'm happy you have plenty of game in the freezer though. As it's been said before, everyone is being affected differently. I'm sticking to the rules though as we all should, regardless of my family having to expose ourselves more so than ever. I cant help but think that me taking a deer would have been alot easier and less riskier but I'm not prepared to risk my FAC. Who knows I may even become a Vegan after all this is done. LIKE HELL! Atb keep safe fellas :thumb:

Just had this back from my local Firearms Dept...

"Good Morning,

We have received no further guidance and this doesn’t fall under the firearms act.

However, if the pest control is part of your work, for example a farmer, then I would suggest that there wouldn’t be any issues. If however the pest control is shooting over land as recreation (not a paid part of your work) you may fall foul of the new legislation related to COVID-19."

I work for the ambulance service on a rapid response vehicle and also on an ambulance, my wife is a nurse on icu/mau with a combined 25years in the NHS, we have both looked after multiple patients with Covid, both of us have never seen a virus or disease that can make you so critically unwell in such a short space of time, talking to them one minute and in hours be on a ventilator or dead. Also so massively contagious It really is scary, I just wish people would take it seriously, young or old you really are in danger from it. So if you can avoid going out I would strongly advise it. The less people go out the shorter the “lockdown” period will be. Stay safe out there people
Stay safe mate, you all are doing a great but difficult job :tiphat: :tiphat:

Travel to work "only is absolutely necessary". My paye job?..... it's not necessary....... my part time job, the one I have a registered company name to provide forestry protection?......don't think I can justify it as "absolutely necessary".

FYI From ADMG this morning:

Coronavirus and deer management

Everyone will be aware of the current situation and restrictions on movement that are in place at least for the next three weeks.

It is vital that everyone takes steps to minimise social and business interaction to reduce the transmission of Covid-19 and, wherever possible and for as long as Government stipulates, to STAY AT HOME.

SNH has made available the following guidance for deer managers:

The clear message from Government and health professionals is to stay at home unless you are involved in an essential activity. In the fight back against Covid-19 deer managers should not therefore be travelling to go stalking. Deer stalking at this time is not an essential activity and undertaking stalking does carry a risk of accidents. Responding to and dealing with any incident will put the emergency services and NHS under further pressure.

Further to this ADMG is recommending deer managers should:
  • consider whether work such as Habitat Impact Assessments, training, or other activity, even if this takes place out of doors, is essential or whether it can be postponed.
  • postpone any non-essential meetings including DMG meetings. There are online platforms that can be effectively used for small meetings such as Skype or Teams.
  • avoid all non-essential travel.
  • avoid any activity that might, through accident or error, place additional pressure on any of the emergency services.
  • check the Covid-19 Support for Business, Guidance for Employers and other pages for notifications of measures that could help your business.
Carcase collection from larders will be affected as processors respond to the current situation. However, the Scottish Government has said that businesses involved in food supply should remain open if possible, subject to being able to adhere to two requirements:
  • safe social distancing practice.
  • normal health and safety requirements.
We will issue further updates as information is made available.

Best wishes,

Stay well,

Grif

Not for you to tell anyone mate, let alone tell people to grow up. Its worse waiting outside a supermarket so if ive got the option I know which one I'm going with wether you like it or not. Oh, and stupid comments like that is why you ain't in charge lol. Get s grip of yourself and look what's going on the rest of the country like London for example.

Get a grip, really.
I'm the one quietly sitting at home bored to death but doing what I'm told.
I'm also not the idiot looking for a reason or excuse to do what I want regardless of the situation.

Neil.

A friend told me today that he contacted Devon & Cornwall firearms licensing and was told there are only four categories of people allowed to stalk. The landowner (presumably farmer), professional gamekeepers, professional stalkers and he couldn't remember the fourth! What came across loud and clear was NO recreational stalking.

You and me both mate, I'm sat here eating a bacon and cheese turnover the mrs made seeing as were now both off. That was a veru genuine question too regarding the work on the farm. As for the 'idiot' call me what ever you want mate, i really couldn't care less what some cock Womble has to say about me. I'm self isolating in the hills with noone around if I want to, safest place to be as there is literally noone there. And as old keeper stated, farmer/landowner can, im appointed by the farmer and i shoot on his behalf as he isn't healthy enough to. Again, no contact required anywhere but i will clear it with my feo. And also to point out yet again, its GUIDANCE. It states it literally in black and white. Always been told 'never argue with idiots, they drag you down to there level and beat you with experience' good day, stay safe.

Probably best if admin don't allow these threads tbh
I need to stop reading this sh1t. How do I block a thread? Can't listen to any more selfish, immature c#nts who are unable to follow a perfectly simple instruction from the Prime Minister. Yet I keep being drawn back here...🤒. Help me............
