.25-35 Lever action?

I wouldn’t, have you seen my hornet loads?? Not that I’m suggesting anyone tries it but 14.8 gr of lil gun will fit in a Remington hornet case if you use a 16” drop tube......

Seating the bullet is problematic when the powder is at the rim though, 14.2 gives about 1 mm to play with getting the bullet in

(Please don’t anybody try this it is beyond published load data and as such should be deemed unsafe)
Yes mate, I use to get 50g 4895 in a 308 for my 110g bullets.
Work up slowly folks!

You should try Lil Gun in the 357 Magnum. High speed, low drag.~Muir

Plan on it, have 3lb stocked up for the hornet, virtually the same velocity as H110 according to the data but they only give data for 158s, have you used for lighter, 125s in particular?

I "had" a pre war Kettner single shot rifle with a Collath scope on top that was chambered for the 25-35 . I shot it some at the range with 1960's factory ammo 117 grain and it did very well even with the not the clearest period scope . Always wanted to plunk a deer with it but never did .

I also had a circa 1906 Marlin Model 1893 in 25-36 Marlin which is virtually the same thing as a 25-35 WIN matter of fact you can fired 25-35 factory in a 25-36 it just moves the semi shoulder out a bit . With the Marlin a loaded the Hornady 117 RN a bit and they shot nicely , well as well as I can do with open sights . Then I got a couple molds for 110-120 grain bullets and shot it a good bit more . I was sure I could plunk a deer with my cast inside 75 or so yards but each time I carried no deer walked out and wanted to be the victim . That rifle as far as I know resides in Texas now .

Hi
If you really do want a .25cal in a lever action then would a Savage 99 in .250 savage meet your requirements? I am not sure if you have ruled this out same as you have done the BLR.
Magazine fed so you can use pointy bullets too. The 250 Savage is a lovely little cartridge and perfectly adequate.

Now finding one in the UK may be another matter but hopefully it will give you something to mull over during the lockdown.

I never understood why the 250 savage never took off in the UK. Or the Roberts.

Hi SD
I think other cartridges like the .243 stole its thunder. I think it is a good choice though for someone who desires something a little different. I like .25cal and own a custom 25-06. A good friend of mine uses a .257 Roberts improved with great success.

Pretty much the same situation over here . The 243 became the small bore standard for deer and varmint hunting , more by numbers of rifles made than any practical advantage in the field . The 250/3000 still has a very large following here and is still a fairly popular choice for short action custom built rifles . It is a very good White-Tail cartridge , especially in a Savage 99 , perfect for still hunting in timber . Unfortunately , they're getting a little scarce as the years go by . I'd like a 99 A in 250 ............. and a 99-358 for the large or toothy things to go with it , that would cover pretty much anything I run into .

And a 284W for if you want something a bit further out..?

I haven't. I have used LG with 140 thru 180 grain, cast and jacketed~Muir
Do you have a load for cast 158s (happy if you’d rather PM)

My 25-45 sharps basically mimics the 250-3000, very handy little cartridge for roe and munties

No problem: 15 to 18 grains of Lil Gun. I settled on 17 grains. Only 25K pressure which is what drew me to it. I roll crimped the loads. I notice Hodgdon's doesn't list Lil Gun Data any more but I printed it out at the time. ~Muir

PS: These were hard cast, gas checked, well fit (to the gun) bullets.

Yes , but they're few and far between . I know one 99 freak who has one , along with one in 7/08 and the rarest of the rare , one in 375 Win . They didn't make many of those , it was right at the end of the 99's production . Coincidently , and to bring this thread back , it was also made in 25/35 ........... I have never seen one , but apparently they exist .
