Exactly the issue I’ve had! South westerly winds make getting on deer with backstop very difficult on virtually all of my ground
Managed 3 by me and one by @kennyc last weekend as we knew this was coming and the wind finally cooperated

This is what you will look like to the outside world if you choose to go recreational stalking during this lockdown and need help from the emergency services.

finnbear I’m with you they should have left him up there.
I received a welcome update from Gloucestershire Constabulary this afternoon:
"Good afternoon,
We have been advised that Stalking for the purposes of deer control is permitted. However, this is not extended for the purposes of “social shooting”, for example clay pigeon shooting and the “social distancing” advice should be complied with.
ooh goody a quiz.
Hello everyone, here in Italy following the containment of health, the Ministry of the Environment has officially suspended the hunting and census of animals to be selected for selection with a directive. It is said both the need to reduce the movement of people, both close to home and far and from one municipality to another
ok, what have I won?
This !That’s just it, brain cells can sometimes be distributed in a random fashion.Surly it’s going to have to be the same rules across the country and not per each licensing department?
If this goes on much more than 3 weeks and I can’t shoot I can’t feed my ferrets.
Just let the Ferrets eat your dinner, and you will get fitter.![]()

Why the angry face by the way, it’s just a statement of fact! If I can’t feed them they’ll have to be put to sleep, I didn’t say I was going out shooting!!
You can buy dry ferret food if you can't find it they will do fine on tinned cat food not dog food its too richWhy the angry face by the way, it’s just a statement of fact! If I can’t feed them they’ll have to be put to sleep, I didn’t say I was going out shooting!!
Sure ferrets be fine on wet cat food if pushed from supermarket if and when you exercise your right to go get essentials

No need to put them to sleep
Is the volunteering to help out on a farm your job? No.
Is it essential for YOU to go and do it? No. Essential for the farmer maybe, but not you.
Is helping out on a farm more or less likely to bring you in to contact with other people who are carriers of COVID? More likely.
Does helping out on a farm come with all the same risks and issues highlighted in this thread about going out stalking in terms of car accidents, refuelling etc.? Yes it does.
Is volunteering on a farm and just happening to have a rifle with you ("My word, how ever did THAT get in my pocket?") being used as a sort of thinly veiled excuse for going out shooting in this context? Yes it is lets be honest.
We're not being asked to give up our hobby, we're not being asked to give up our guns, we're not being asked to stop stalking. We're being asked to stay indoors for a handful of weeks to ease the burden on the NHS during a global pandemic and hopefully reduce the number of deaths as a result.
We should be pleased that something as simple as just sitting on the sofa is going to save the world - OK, I'm being dramatic for effect but you get my point!
Here’s another thread on dodging in the makingThis is where people differ. For you it's a hobby, pay a guide have a stalk, shoot something, maybe pay to take it home but for most on here it seems its the trigger time that's important not the meat. Or there are people who shoot a lot and sell 90% to a dealer, not professional stalkers but do it for fun and the extra cash. Then there are the hunters (who apparently are in a much smaller minority than I thought) who go out for meat. Shoot no more than they can take home, butcher, freeze and then eat over a few weeks. Once it's gone we go out again and repeat.
The act just passed by Parliament clearly states going out to "obtain" food is essential. No mention of buying it in a shop just obtaining it. My stalking ground is closer than the supermarket or butchers and there is no one there so I know where I'll be heading.
