Puppy vaccinations, gardens and foxes

Hi all. Hope you and your families are safe and well?

Just one to put to those of you have 'been there before. Thrilled to have had delivered last Friday our new 8 week old lab bitch. She's got a lovely temperament so far and has been chipped, flea'd and wormed etc. I took her for her first vaccination jab at the vets this morning (the 2nd is booked for 4 weeks) and she coped fine. Now obviously I can't take her 'out out' yet...but do you think she would be safe in our enclosed garden? There hasn't been a single mutt in the garden for at least 5 years but we do have quite regular visits from foxes, and they often leave faeces behind. Want to absolutely do the right thing by her health wise but also continue her toilet training and allow her some freedom to explore if it is safe to do so. Would welcome your constructive advice, thank you.

As Buchan said, absolutely fine. The disease risk is tiny in comparison with the negatives of the pup not getting outside.

We are doing puppy and kitten vaccines and first annual boosters. Other boosters can wait for now.

Ha just googled this fact before I mentioned it as thought it might of been an old urban myth I had picked up
but foxes don’t like the smell of human urine so get peeing in your garden and keep the foxes away.
if not pee in a milk carton on pour it where the foxes gain access.
take best precautions as when they are little they can go down hill fast and these aren’t the easiest of times for vets or anyone.
stay safe and enjoy your pup and the feeling of peeing outside hmmmmm

Thanks for all the replies guys. General consensus seems to be not to worry too much about it, right? Trouble is lab pups seem to do EVERYTHING through their mouth and nose...constantly having to pull random crap out of her mouth. Feathers, cobwebs, the kitchen mop...!

Trust me hairycow I've tried the peeing thing before when my son kept his pet rabbits in hutches in the garden. They seemed to ignore it and managed to get all 4 rabbits in the end despite high security. I never used to mind foxes but have gone of them bigtime (time for a .223 perhaps?)

If only it was just lab pups!

Our lab is now 3, and yet he still eats everything. We were working down the allotment this morning and, having seen us pick some rhubarb, he decided that eating rhubarb is now his thing. Mrs Gunn is not a happy camper!
