Best value for money dog food?

Having had a good source for dog food retire from keepering i find myself looking for a good non wheat protein dog food. I mix with raw beef from my local knackery. I am drawn for some reason to Chudleys Working Crunch but there must be a cheaper mix out there?

Try aldi they do a grain free type, even my picky Jack Russell likes it

So your dogs have gluten issues, if so the gluten free options generally are much of a muchness on “value” I.e they’re all bloody expensive. If you want good quality value food, I’ve yet to hear a vet not concur that chappie is very easily digestible and innocuous, but it does contain whole grain so might not be suitable if you’re needing to steer clear.
Ours have been on Burns for years, it’s not cheap but then our dogs are valued members of the household and I don’t skimp. They get the best I can afford. Their stools are solid and look “right” and i supplement it with venison bone and off cuts as and when. They all have great coats and good health.

Probably the best value is just the one they will eat consistently, my youngest can be a fussy bugger and ate the Aldi for years then wouldn’t even look at the bowl. Harrington’s it now is , do I care about the extra cost, NO all I care about is a fit happy hound

Exactly what I used to find a good balance between cost and quality, settled on skinners duck an rice and mine thrive on it.

I use Arkwright's chicken or beef

£8.75 a bag (15 kg)

It contains 18% protein and a good level of all the other guff crude ash, etc etc, that goes into it

My pointers have a full bowl once a day and filled with water

I will add i also top up with Red offal, from every deer i shoot.

Dr John is the working dog cat free option. They make lots of different types of dry food hypoallergenic etc.
I have feed Dr John Silver for more years than I can remember with excellent results. My friend who breeds labs is a convert and my brother.

We also feed raw chicken carcass roughly-chopped if we're having a bird. I strip the breast, wings, and thighs, but the dogs get the carcass, along with chopped carrot, seaweed, and salmon oil

I found AllAboutDogFood when Pero stopped doing the organic food we were using, I opted for the first food to achieve AllAboutDogFood's 5* rating...Akela Wholeprey grain free 80% Chicken Fish Turkey and Egg 20% Fruit Veg vitamins and minerals...

I currently feed the little Springer once a day about 100g of the Akela and 250g of the Natural Instinct Chicken Turkey or Lamb and a pheasant leg or thigh. She often gets a deer or sheep bone to gnaw at weekends.

Off season she puts on weight!

Best value for money is a healthy dog of course...

Be careful mixing raw food with biscuits it can be very bad for the dog. Something to do with different processes to break it down. If you want to feed both it needs to be one meal of biscuits and one meal of raw with enough time in between to digest.

I bought 70 quids worth a week before lockdown and have another delivery coming next week. That’s about 90 days to feed a cocker and a lab, so less than a quid a day to feed two dogs. Supplement with a few eggs, leftover veg and occasionally some tinned fish.

Duck necks are good as well, very high in oil and protein. Perfect for a bitch that has just whelped.
