Good Afternoon Ladies and Gents,

After hours upon hours of phone calls this last two days I have released this message on to all my members.

Good Afternoon .

I would like to wish you all well and we are all well here too.

I am making this statement on behalf of myself and Game Management Scotland Ltd to give our clients the heads up in regards to stalking over the grounds that we manage.

I have listened to Nicola Sturgeons speech this morning about the relaxing some of the restrictions imposed by Lockdown over Covid-19, before there is ANY confusion Scotland is currently STILL on Lockdown, lets that get clear first.

Listening to the Scottish Governments comments this morning they lockdown will be released in phases, where stalking recreation-ally comes within these phases is unclear at the moment.

During Ms Sturgeons speech this morning she did mention that some solitary recreational activities are allowed to be resumed, a guidance of 5 miles travelling was given but not legally imposed, but only reasonable travel is allowed, so travelling 200 miles to go stalking is not classed as reasonable travel and cycling 20 miles is still not classed as reasonable travel.

At the moment it looks like people who live in England will still not be able to come to Scotland so cross border travelling is still not classed as essential.

I have emailed my MSP Kate Forbes this morning to get some clarity on what will be allowed and what wont be, until I have had an email back I will not be changing anything in regards to shooting activities within our properties UNLESS changes are made by the OWNERS and their management staff.

As none of my members live within five miles of any of our properties that we manage I can see restrictions still being in place until "Phase 2" of the government lock down release plans.

Now let me be clear, if you travel you travel at your own risk, there are no public facilities open, there are no Hotels, bars, cafes or restaurants open, facilities are few and far between. Please bare this in mind when travelling.

Bare in mind camping is currently NOT ALLOWED, so thinking you can pitch a tent or use a caravan wont work as police WILL move you on.

This is exceptional times, please be patient, I want to get you back stalking as much as you do, but I also do not want to see anyone get into trouble. If the police stop you, which they are doing a lot right now specially vehicles from out of the area, the chances of a fine are high and most likely a message sent to your firearms officer, revocation of your tickets is possible.

Please be safe and I will let you know when I know about ANY changes.

Was hoping for a bit more clarity from Sturgeon about stalking as well David, I'm fortunate that my beat on the river is within 5 miles so looking forwards to that..... it's a shame that there hasn't been a bit more flexibility as far as travel goes - if you can travel for an hour to exercise down South, I would have expected a similar guide for fishing/stalking/shooting whilst maintaining a degree of self isolation up here.

The Daily Mail asks if police will be stopping cars to make sure the five-mile trip for leisure guidance is being followed.

Chief constable Iain Livingstone reckons that would be "disproportionate" and "excessively intrusive", adding that it would harm what are generally good relations with the public, adding that the vast majority have adapted well to the lockdown restrictions.

So unless you particularly draw attention to yourself . .

Not often I find myself thinking the Daily Mail has asked a sensible question and received a sensible answer from the Police, but nice to see a bit of reality creeping in..... Would be the quickest way to lose public support if the Police started interrogating drivers for no good reason. I'm sure their ANPR kits would give them all the relevant info they required anyway.
 
I think if you car is registered in Glasgow and you are spotted in Inverness they might decide to stop you , I was out the other night and people were being stopped, I counted around 8 cars being stopped just randomly but to be fair most were youngsters cruising around a couple of caravanettes

I email Kate Forbes MSP this morning to ask specifically about stalking am sure I will get a reply in due course .

We also have to remember that nothing is changing at all until 28th May , so anything can change in a week.

I am just trying to keep my members updated, it is totally unfair not too.

I am working on a few things to see if we can do something long term for my members but nothing in stone yet.

Sturgeon qualified ast night that the 5 miles criteria was a guide and accept that it may not be appropriate in a rural area.

Maybe she'll run out of fingers and toes, the total new cases outwith the populous areas is... 21, if you consider Dundee as part of the countryside; fifty of the 600 ICU beds in Scotland continue to be occupied, leaving, er, some free for the second spike that would obviously come were restrictions eased too early...

Hey I not disagreeing with figures or advocating early removal of Lockdown , I am in a problematic position at the moment myself personally with my own family so the less visitors up here the better,

I am just keeping members from down south up to date with what is going on in Scotland as the press down there does not seem to report anything about it and if they do it is only half the story.

I am absolutely shitting myself over a second wave to be honest, as my wife has a heart condition that causes her heart to stop called Woolfes Parkinsons White
 
No mingling with non locals for her then, hope she stays safe, but it's hard to see where the danger is goi g to come from outwith Inverness, where the one new case today in Highland region is most likely to have occurred (either in a hospital or care home).

To live in fear is bad, all the more so when it is unjustifiable.

With most of continental Europe reopening its beaches, holiday resorts and even cafes and bars either right now or imminently, I reckon half of the UK population looks on this with some envy allied to a 'Why not us too? feeling. The other half is enjoying anticipated schadenfreude saying " .... just you wait, they'll be hit by a new infections / flare-up spike .... and right it'll deserve them too! (There is almost a medieval punishment from God attitude amongst some appearing methinks.)

If there aren't any widespread new infections amongst the fleshpots of Malaga or Nice, our Tourist Board managers over much of the country (more accurately described as 'Destroy Tourism Boards' right now) are going to look pretty silly - although whose present and future livelihoods may be destroyed by them may have rather stronger views in this eventuality.

Anybody who wishes to voluntarily isolate as @Tulloch does for excellent reasons may do so - I sympathise completely. However as @Freeforester says we're now living in a widespread state of induced fear and the authorities are deciding how we should react to it - and are hardly being open and candid on what the reasons / justifications are for their legally enforced 'nannying'. The Hoo-Haa and national self backslapping that went on with last week's 75th VE Day anniversary irritated me and amused me in equal measure. Had they been blessed with the current UK population's and their politicians' attitudes to an external threat such as Covid - the health & Safety culture plus total aversion to any risk - our ancestors would have canceled all Spitfire and tank orders in 1939/40 and put 100% of national effort into building deep concrete bunkers. Regulations ensuring the entire population remained inside them until the war went away or the Germans had arrived and conquered us unopposed would have followed on immediately.

The problem lies is that if she gets it or any of my 4 kids get it 2 being 15 and 17 then the only person that can give it them is me as I cannot isolate as I would have no money at all
 
It wont be long before people start ignoring the lockdown (happening more daily) like a lot of other places round the world. Big revolts now starting in Spain.

We have not far off a similar land mass as England, but 1:10 of the population.

I flew to Norway for work 4 weeks ago (to sit for 2 weeks in quarantine) and there was more chance of me catching it on the plane than there was being at home.
