Dominic Cummings clash fan or not ??

What we know:

A combination of bitter remainers, lockdown jobsworths and the usual “it’s all fatcher’s fault” anti-Tory tw@ts crawl out of the woodwork baying for blood. Pathetic.
I voted leave, I voted Tory, I don’t blame Thatcher. I don’t think I’m a jobsworth, although you may have to ask my colleagues that one.
I do believe in fairness.
So two questions;
How many other families could have (should have) taken advantage of this get out clause?
Did he whilst up at his parents also go to Barnard Castle on his wife’s birthday, thus still breaking the rules?

It's nothing to do with liking or disliking anyone. It's about playing by the rules that he helped to lay down. Possibly his excuse for taking his child close to family so they could help if he and his wife became incapable is justifiable. However if they live so far away? do they see the child more often than a close friend for instance? But then being seen out on at least one occasion when he was up there is not justifiable.

So you and your wife might be coming down with CV and may have to be admitted to hospital like your best mate Boris was. Your son is 4 years old he is autistic. Do you do nothing and run the risk he may have to be taken into care or do you stuff everything into the car and without stopping take him to be near to relatives who can look after him if the worst happens. You make your choice.....I know what I would do.
I was a handicapped teacher for three years of downs syndrome sufferers in my 20"s so hope I am not being heartless but by this person cummins logic, I write the rules then when they apply to me or the wife as being infected I hop in a car to cross the country risking losing my SGC if stopped by plod or having a breakdown (he is a LR driver) or an accident, then on arrival I will be living next to my elderly family, a high risk group who will not want to see me or my child? Now if we parents both go down with the lurgy and are admitted to hospital my extended family will enter an infected house, collect a very likely infected child and take him under their wing.
FFS the risk assessment alone says to me better to shoot us all to reduce more risks to the population (joke, but I am pi::ed).

What we know:

A man and his wife, caring for an autistic four year old who can’t be looked after by anyone but family, become ill and fear becoming incapacitated where they have nobody to look after their child so travel to a separate empty house next to their family. The man’s sister does their shopping and leaves it outside until they recover.

There’s an “exceptional circumstances” get out in the lockdown rules arguably designed to cover these situations. Shortly afterwards, further exclusion clauses are added to cover the specific needs of autistic children.

A combination of bitter remainers, lockdown jobsworths and the usual “it’s all fatcher’s fault” anti-Tory tw@ts crawl out of the woodwork baying for blood. Pathetic.

Good points, and I have every sympathy for his family position.

I do not have sympathy for those that seek to excuse him of apparently disregarding the restrictions that he was party to impose on others, by claiming criticism of his actions purely a political Witch Hunt.

To be fair to the rest of the population who abide by the rules, we deserve a full account of his actions. If his account proves justifiable, fine...if he has done nothing wrong why not publish the details of his movements? To just ignore and brush aside the reports is an insult to all those who have suffered through abiding by the rules.

Apart form anything else, if he doesn't it will be just that much harder to persuade everybody of the need to look out for others during the pandemic.

We have extended family with a 20 year old autistic child who have been following the 12 week shielding guidance, in their sixties they are more vulnerable than the Cummings family. They too have not been able to have any of their usual carers in to help. They have not been [reported] travelling back and forth to London or going out in to Public spaces in that period.

They also fear becoming incapacitated and becoming unable to look after their child. I am sure that fear goes for many people with dependant children and vulnerable and / or elderly relations, who have had to make heartbreaking decisions in order to abide by the guidance both in letter and spirit for the greater good.

We have been shielding my 96 year old mum, and 200 miles away my sister in law has coped with shielding and caring for my wheel chair bound vulnerable brother in law, we also fear becoming incapacitated and being unable to support and care.

It is true that my view that he should publicly account for his actions can only be coloured as a remain voter. It will make me more likely to believe in yet another example of his hypocrisy. He is arguably the most powerful man in the country, and he is the unelected bureaucrat who devised the "Take back control from unelected bureaucrats" slogan.

We allow him or the government not to give a full account of his actions at our peril.

Alan

Just another thought. The government was quite happy to throw professor Neil Ferguson under the bus. What's the difference. In fact Wouldn't it have been better to spare professor Ferguson, someone who could actually make a difference, rather than another waste of taxpayers money political advisor?

Life is full of risks, and generally in emergency situations slightly higher risks are taken.

As a matter of interest here is the Malverns near to where I live, where I regularly walk my dogs and do training with them when it's quiet which is 99 days out of a hundred. This was a regular weekend, not a bank holiday. This was taken by me (no I didn't stop and walk my dogs this day). As well as the cars in the car park and in the road there were several groups of 2 or three cars pulled up on the grass with groups of between 7 and 9 people having picnics. Now some of these will no doubt be the ones calling for DC to quit or be fired. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Because of DC you will probably see more of this.
The issue is of when he did travel - at the height of the lockdown, not as restrictions are being lifted as they are now

To be honest, there's nothing he could say this afternoon that would convince me he hasn't disregarded the regulations, and more importantly put his own and his families welfare above the greater good of the public. I know I'm stupid to believe we could expect such decency from our public officials but there you go...call me an eternal optimist.
The truth may indeed be that hidden in the regulations was a get out clause which allowed such travel on child welfare grounds but the message from the Govt was loud and clear "stay at home"....not your second home/family farm.
In my opinion he put his family and the general public at great risk by doing what he did. At that time London was a hotbed of infection and all attempts were being made to contain the infection; at that time the N.East had a very low infection rate but now is a hotbed of infection.........lucky for Mr Cummings that we don't have an efficient track and trace system up and running as how ironic would it be if it showed he was a "super spreader" !
Compare his actions with the Austrian president who was caught by police in a restaurant after the 2300hrs curfew. He held his hands up, apologised profusely stating he had completely lost track of time after catching up with friends, accepted full responsibility and offered to cover the cost of any fine the restaurant owner may face. The press are not baying for his blood because he hasn't portrayed himself as superior and arrogant and above the law.
Regards, Rob.

I can't wait until none of this sh1t matters any more. Anyone else bored of how small all of our worlds (and our world-views) have become?

I fully intend to continue to follow orders, but boy is this gig getting dull...:worried:

On a lighter note, at least the sun is shining.

Yup

Lunch of spicy chicken, coconut rice and a bottle of chablis - all in the sunshine

Bored with all the b*llocks

Can't wait to make future plans

Aye me also Carl, I'm starting to get a bit fed up with it now. I went out dog food shopping today not a far journey by any means but it's the furthest I have driven in 9 weeks since I finished up work.
One good thing is I had a call the other day and I'm starting back work on the 15th June if all is well, not on the job I left before the lockdown as they can't guarantee enough social distancing.
I wonder what the wee krankie will come up with this week for us north of the border :-|

This fuss is complete nonsense. Suppose the Cummings made the wrong choice. What alternative course of action should he have taken that involved less risk of spreading disease?

Bryn the virus is the press, they are after him because of Brexit the main press hounder`s are remainer`s and want to discredit him because he is one of the main exit negotiators,
and because of Brexit a fair proportion of the public would support him even if he said the man in the moon told him....see it works both ways, and BTW from memory most of the UK press was pro-brexit so that rather shoots your point down

Yes he did travel at the height of the lockdown as did a lot of others.
