Hi
Anybody stalk in these? Just read a review and apparently they are legendary. I'd not heard of them until about 15 minutes ago when a person on another forum mentioned them as a good bushcrafty style jacket. Looked it up and they seem ideal for stalking? Wondered if people had used them?
 
Sorry, I appreciate that’s not a terrible helpful reply, but they are really nothing new and well regarded stalking gear, swillingtons stock them as do Ray mears website, ssave yourself the hassle of importing. But, there have been a few recent issues with quality creeping in, so read into that what you will.
 
I rate mine highly, There has been people saying that there's leak but I really can't fault mine, It's my go to jacket when I know its going to be miserable weather.
 
Personally I would (if spending that sort of money) shop British and go for a hiltrek smock, customer service second to none, quality British made gear that will last and last and last.....

Swazi are OK, not legendary.

If you use Swazi gear on a professional basis they will wear out.

Price is too high in the UK, got some through work some self purchase.

Got the Kagoule (perfect for estate/yard work), Tahr and 2x Wapiti.

The Tahr and Kagoule are better than the Wapiti (which is a glorified clay/game jacket), but should be priced around £200 not £400.

Their trousers (although no pockets) are much better than the jackets (wrist cuffs are just wrong, soak up water and take ages to dry).

Then again they are hand made in NZ. Seems like most of the guys there who use them either get them for free in rare instances (probably also through work), buy 2nd hand or wait for sales/discounts.

Their founder threw some legal gun owners in NZ under the bus as well when they started banning semi-autos, make of that what you will.

Take this with a pinch of salt as I am a gear snob and think Harkila are rubbish.
 
Ive got a tahr xp, been a good jacket but not at £400 when equivalent stoney creek is £250 . i picked mine up £140 like new so was lucky
 
Got the Tahr a few years ago and had a Wapiti and Nahanni fleece smock.
I got them direct from NZ and the cost was a good bit less than UK prices.
The Wapiti is way over priced in my humble opinion and nowt special, I sold that on, as I did with the Nahanni , which was quiet and warm but didn't get much use really.

The Tahr is almost redundant as I also have a Fjallraven No8 smock which I really like, again, it's way over priced but I got a decent deal online, it's not waterproof (more for the cold and dry Baltic weather) but two coats of Fabsil Gold and it's the dogs nuts , been out in some proper wet weather fishing and stalking and it's been braw.
Really well made too as with most Fjallraven gear.
I won't replace the Tahr with another, but instead will prob go Hilltrek if and when the No8 gives up the ghost, but that won't be anytime soon

I recently bought a swanndri ranger shirt which are now made in China. I have to say, having owned NZ made ones previously I can discern no difference in quality, feel, components etc, the garment is to all intents and purposes identical, there is some snobbery about stuff being made in China/Vietnam etc, but they more often than not have production absolutely nailed, there is nothing wrong with a lot of stuff manufactured there.
 
I really like my Wapiti because the fit is great (for me) - plenty long arms and not too baggy in the middle, hood is excellent and it just feels right when I put it on.

Never really liked the pull overs so have avoided them.

Prett waterproof, I’m never sure with any jacket they completely keep my arms dry, always seems to creep up my forearms somehow.

Not sure if it’s just me but - once they get wet and you take them off. I find that when you come to put the jacket back on again the inside is a bit wet - almost like your body heat is needed to keep the moisture out. Annoying but not world ending.

In all fairness I paid £250 for mine and would pay that again but I don’t think o would pay full whack.

Having said that I like mine more than my pro hunter so it’s doing something right.

From a political standpoint I don't think we should willingly buy any goods made in PRC (calling it China is a insult to thousands of Chinese people living in exile).

Manufacturers who move production there should be boycotted too.

Good luck with that. Most of the electricity you buy in this country, the water you drink, etc, it’s all owned or part owned by Chinese billionaires.....

Well I guess that if they keep an eye on the quality, however to me Swazi an swanni are iconic kiwi brands and its a bit of a sell out to ship out manufacture in my eyes, knowing kiwis I'd also imagine they'll be mighty upset too as they were with swanni.
