£3,500 for a mongrel?

I caught a programme earlier this evening " Dogs Behaving (very) Badly"
I don't know why they don't correctly name it "Owners Behaving (very) Badly"
Cringeworthy & my anger doesn't come close to the absolute stupidity & ignorance I felt of these owners. :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:
For me the dog as become a fashion accessory for some, And the dog is much brighter than the owner,
They Turn up to a shoot with all the fancy gear on, and a dog that rules the owner,:gheyfight::tiphat:
And they can breed and have kids,
WOW,:rofl::rofl:

Never paid near to 1k for a dog, where do they make these prices up from.
Something fully trained etc I can understand, but a puppy...

I have some sympathy for men who own dogs, even expensive ones, simply because as an alternative, I have seen a few "trophy wives" and they are really expensive and impossible to control.
Better to have a semi - controllable cheapish alternative.

Got this fella last year was the best £550 I have spent in a long time. Good pedigree and kc . Cracking dog
£2000 for a Ess pup at the moment!!!!
That's roughly 75% more than I am willing to pay, yet he would have the best life!

i wouldnt pay that sort of money there,s some fantastic dogs waiting to be rehomed out there, me thinks some people have more money than sense bs

So why don’t these people just go to the local dogs home goodness knows theirs a great choice of Hienz 57 varieties and it stops undervaluing good breeding principles. The ugliest mongrel I ever saw was a kennel maids mistake of a boxer xAiredale. Read somewhere that was popular in India as guard dogs during the time of colonisation.

Almost every rehoming place won't re-home a dog if there are children under the age of 12 at home. Only a few will and then that's usually dogs under 6 months of age. If you have kids and want a dog buying a pup is often the only way to go and all the time people will spend thousands on a mongrel then people will sell them.

It aint that easy, we have been trying to adopt a rescue Staffy for 3 years now having previously rescued two, at the moment we dont meet the criteria, having visiting small children (grandson), not living in the area of the rescue centre (regular home checks) and not having vet references of previous dogs ( both very healthy and died of old age) I really think that many of the rescue centres are jobsworths who dont actually want to let any of the dogs go, when all we want is to offer a loving forever home

Having observed what the rescue kennels want in terms of ensuring you are a good dog friend it might just be easier to grow feathers and fly. Dog's need friend's to care for them, work them and lay about after a good day working birds memory's awash in the head. So many wont learn what dog's need in terms of exercise, care and keeping. When my Lab Sam was a pup being told how cute and he behaves well was common followed by I will get one. My response always was do you have time to train, work and care for a pup if not don't do it.

I think if they see the current price for a Lab pup or any pup at this time they won’t do it, £2000 to £3500 for a Lab.

I reckon the amount of dogs that end up in rescue places over the next 12 months they'll either turn them away or have to revaluate their criteria for rehoming

Cynically one might suggest the criteria are set not only for the dog but to maintain gainful employment for the staff.

Unfortunately many rescue centres around my area are full to the gunnels of bull terriers which some ned owned to try and up his man image and purposely turned the dog into a nightmare that could do real damage.
One specific area in the city had to put out an article on the cost of replacing playground swing seats as the neds were using them to latch their dogs onto them. 🙄 absolute muppets and unfortunately not something I’m willing to risk my kids faces on!

That is a really big problem with most rescue centres, most of them seem full to the brim with "Bull Terrier Type Dogs". Unfortunately it is the "chavs/wanna be hard men" who have done a lot of damage to the reputation to Staffs - It's such a shame really, especially as the Stafford Bull Terrier was originally known as a "Nanny Dog" which was used to watch over, care for and protect the youngsters in years gone by! If you are able to find one in a rescue shelter which hasn't been ruined by the idiots you could well have one of the most loyal, gentle and loving dogs around!
We were very lucky with our dog (He has more staff in him than whippet) and he adores our 16 month old grand daughter - Whenever little Ella visits he constantly "fusses" around her and watches over her and is extremely gentle with her - And Ella adores and loves playing with Harley too!
However because of the way that the idiots have many given Staffs a bad name I can understand why people are very wary of taking on a Staff!

Spot on Frenchie, I’ve had a few friends with staffys that have been great dogs but it’s just unfortunately the predominant choice for chavs, the poor dogs haven’t got a chance when these idiots are training them in the way they are - of all the items to train a dog to attack - a child’s swing....how big a moron would you have to be to not see the problem with that or care about the potential consequences!?!?

Gixer
