Is it ever acceptable to question an advertised price?

Nothing wrong with offering but do it in PM. That's what I do if I'm a buyer and think a fair price is less than the asking. I'm not a fan of chiming in on the thread.

If I'm a seller I'll consider any offer but I don't really like it when people write to me basically saying I'm an idiot for offering at the price I'm offering.

At the moment I'm selling a piece of wooden furniture for £200, in good condition. The same item is still available new for £500. Someone messaged me saying he'd like to buy it but would only pay £85 because that's what he paid for his last one, that I was dumb for asking more - and the reason he doesn't still have the one he paid £85 for is that he sent it to the tip accidentally! People are really strange.

Should have asked how long he'd lived in the last house he'd bought. And then if he'd said ten of twenty years offered to buy it off him for the price he'd paid for it.

Only problem I’ve had selling stuff on here is, I price it too cheap so some think there must be something wrong with whatever I’m selling.
It still sells though, and there’s nothing wrong with it.
I’m the original man who can tell you how to make a small fortune from selling stuff.

I've listed one or two things that have had no interest at the price. Thing for me is it's cheaper than a new one and if it doesn't sell I will keep it in the loft as I may use it one day and I don't need the cash for it now. If you need to sell something, maybe to free up a slot on your fac then it's a buyer's market.

Morning all hope everyone is well. I drop onto the site and normally just flick through the ‘what’s new’ section unless looking for a specific topic. I find it increasingly annoying when it’s the same advert for weeks on end constantly bumped. I appreciate some items are bargains and am amazed they haven’t been snapped up, on the other hand most items have a comparable market price, I recently enquired about a rifle that was far overpriced and made an offer at what I thought was a fair market price. It was kindly refused. The post them had no less than 13 bumps with not a single reply. The price was dropped to within a few pound of my original offer and still no takers. By the way a picked up the same rifle with a better scope from swillington for £50 less than I offered so certainly not sour grapes. I appreciate people want/need as much as they can get for an item but if people aren’t realistic the forum is just full of bumped adverts that make it abit boring in my opinion.

Which is a gentlemen like thing to do, but do you really see a need for 20 bumps of the ssame relatively sort after item when it’s just obviously overpriced and filling up the news feeds, I suppose one ad maybe isn’t that bigger issue but when it’s 10 or more ads it’s a joke

should never knock someone for trying to make a few quid but then people should not be offended if others try to save a few quid and low ball their offer no one has to buy or sell anything on the site

I consider myself a guilty party in the "BUMP" arena, ......................... My reasoning for it is simply the fact that too much trade advertising pushes your item off the front page within a few minutes in some of the more severe cases.

Personally, I really do not mind how many bumps append an offer.

In fact, when a vendor is persistent by the use of repeated bumps, it is an indication that they really need to sell. That is a useful flag to buyers. The seller may well have mispriced, but keeness to sell is evident. The repeated bumping at the higher price then invites a PM at the price that suits the prospective buyer.

No one should be offended by offer or refusal. We trade under willing-buyer, willing-seller.

I saw a scope on here recently, dropped the seller a friendly PM letting them know that I had bought the same scope twice recently at 50% and 70% of their asking price just as a heads up which they appreciated.

One forum doesn’t allow bumping Your own thread if the Ad is a week old which may not be a bad thing but perhaps at a month

I,ve bought quite a lot of bits on here plus two scopes two rifles and been pleased with the sales ,also sold a load of bits as well,but sometimes when i have advertised stuff for a couple of weeks i give up and remove them ,so i don,t bump for a long time if there,s no interest, its swings and roundabouts.

interesting topic, a guy on here a while back who shall remain nameless, was looking for a set of warne rings, i had a set that someone had gave me, so i thought id pass them on, i let him have them for nothing, i even paid the postage being the nice guy i am, lo and behold about 6 months later he was advertising them for £50 the cheeky git, lesson learned, whats that saying apple barrell. bs.
