Lol, no grudges here Carl, I find it quite amusing really. I thought I did rather well ignoring him besmirching my good character with his false accusation (unless putting the word "Google" as a prefix to his moniker counts as bile and vitriol..... ).

I don't remember the accusation so clearly it didn't leave a stain. As far as I am aware, your good name remains intact.

I haven't trawled through all the posts on this subject but one thing interests me. Certain raptors are found and reported and there's no doubt any keeper worth his salt in this day and age wouldn't risk shooting a raptor as you never know who's about. However, in the very many years that I've been out and about in the countryside, I've only ever found one dead raptor and that was a buzzard that had flown into overhead power lines. I wonder why there seem to be certain specific species that appear to turn up quite often?

And whys it always goldies??
Of all the raptor species they probably do the least damage of any, most of the smaller raptors which do cause damage tend to steer clear of the larger raptors if they can to a certain degree.
I'd be bloody encouraging eagles on to my moor, or even eagle owls!!

I have worked on an estate with eagles and welcomed them. Firstly they scared off a pair of Peregrine's who nested with us and we're a pain.
I next saw the hen in a long fast diving chase after a Goshawk, unfortunately never saw the end. She brought in fox cubs from a neighbouring moor which the keeper had missed. We had a drive and got the vixen and cubs. She took the odd old cock grouse chortling on a peat hag (no loss). She also clobbered pheasants heading out onto moor, saving me some dogging in.
Believe me nobody dared touch or even go near our eagles. As Bricktop said we would be their Nemesis.

Seems to be a lot of incidences of secondary poisoning, be interesting to know how many of these are deliberate persecution and how many are accidental, I once found a fox curled up next to a stream looking like it was asleep, turned out to be dead, not a mark on it, went into the farm yard just up the bank from it and there were doped up rats everywhere in broad daylight, farmer was telling me they were putting down m3 bags of poison and they were eating the lot, I found the cub earth on an Ash tip just above the farm, it was littered with rats tails from the farm, interestingly enough the cubs were fine but it had polished off the dog fox
