Just a few dimensions for the minority that are interested in such things:

Length: .812" (20.65mm)
Length without tip: .695" (17.65mm)
Tip length .117" (2.98mm)
Hollow point DIA .059" (1.5mm) at opening x .32" (8mm) deep

Length: .812" This is the problem with most of the lead free in my T3 .22-250 (1:14 twist) - they won't stabilise.
Fox bullets are 0.823" (20.92mm) long, same problem.
Yes, I feel your pain Miki.

I couldn't get the 45gr TSX to shoot rliably in my 1:14 .222

Have you tried them with the plastic tips removed? There's a chance they might work, with the bonus of providing even better expansion. I could send you a handful if you haven't tried them.

1:14 is look (ideally) for around 0.55" length so a flat base, semi-point, like the Sierra 50gn (#1330) Spitzer works well, the 55gn is also good but any boat tailled bullet above 45gn wobbles due to lack of centripetal force.
Non-lead monolithics have to be longer as the material is less dense - i'll take this into account when I buy my next rifle :)

The stability calculators are rather pessimistic. I had good results with 0.7" long 53gr SMK's. I wouldn't choose a 14 twist barrel again though - 1:9 for the next rifle so I can shoot a variety of copper bullets etc.

@takbok cheers for this info, will be looking to use the 50grn TTSX with the tip removed.

Were they hard to pull out? Pliers necessary or just finger pressure?

Cheers!

My new bargain Ruger M77 220 Swift shoots. No trouble stabilising the 50gr TTSX with tip removed. Just 2 shots but it's a good start. Sierra 50gr with the same load were shooting the same accuracy and velocity.

Standard 1:14" twist barrel. The load isn't too hot so will try increasing by a couple of grains and see how that goes.

Bloody hell those are some results!

Copper could be a new way forward due to their their propensity to not blow up as easily at high speed...

You are making me feel inadequate with my .223 😢

A Calibre I’ve always wanted and never had. Must correct this sometime soon!!
Same here! I kicked myself for not buying a cheap one at the start of the year. When this came up I thought that I better not mess around.

Plenty of tinkering ahead. I might free float the barrel and pillar bed in future (I've just reinforced the forend pressure point with epoxy putty for now). I've also got a 220 Ackley reamer so might rechamber this barrel to teach myself chambering. Also the scope mount is too high so need to modify another one and drill and tap receiver to get scope as low as possible.

What cases are you using?

Semi-rimmed cases seem a little weird but obviously work!

Supposedly a favourite of WDM Bell for red stags!

R-P (Remington) cases. I picked up 200 for 4p each. Wish I'd bought them all!!

I think the mag box is specific for the swift as it has a ramp at rear that seems to help feeding.

I have no doubt that with that load it would cope with any UK deer were it legal.

Despite its idiosyncrasies it's my favourite rifle now, displacing my boringly reliable Tika and Sako from top spot.

I think you need to add this to make it perfect! ;)

High velocity and close range results. 10kg Roe, around 80m shot. Shot through top of heart and maybe ran 20m. Meat damage minimal but there's a fair bit of blood between muscles on both sides so trimmed away about 500g+ of rib/shoulder meat.
