Leaving - days to go

Like most of the old money in the U.K. then!
Nah, my old bosses were either army, tobacco importers, or centuries old landowning families. None of them married into money and the only slaves kept were my underkeepers. They all got freed eventually as well to go as overseers elsewhere.😃

Allegedly Comes from a family of slave traders and plantation owners. Married into class Kraut family and not too good in their govt so got EU job.
Actually studied at The London School of Economics, was born and raised in Brussels, is multi lingual and has a phenomenal record as a politician.

As well as being a mother of seven children she is an expert in her chosen field of medicine.

The alleged link to slave trading you mention comes from one American great grandmother who was primarily of British descent.

So her vestigial connection to slavery has an equally vestigial British origin. What a surprise.

Britain was the first country on the modern world to abolish slavery by act of Parliament and the only country to unilaterally police that prohibition on the high seas at its own expense.
If only more of the self-righteous Brit-hating modern nations had done likewise because slavery is very much alive and expanding. It has never gone away in the horn of Africa nor in the middle east where it is rife. But because the slavers are not long-dead British toffs and the enslaved are mostly Bangladeshis and Filipinos and not story book black Africans in neck irons herded by a white men in a pith helmets, who cares. Slavery is also on the rise sharply in Europe. The EU's eastern borders are a portal for Albanian modern slavery gangs who have exploited free movement to spread their trade across the whole of Europe where their activities are protected by the ECHR.
At least when we have left the ECHR's clutches the UK will be able to expel the foreign slavers who have set up business in our country.

This is the draft 'deal'
At a glance it doesnt seem as bad as we feared , what say you ?
That HMG document is farcical.

The Guardian?

I managed to read it without paying ?
That's because the GC website is free, Kenny, unlike the online Telegraph, Times, etc. Those titles are missing a trick.:)
The strapline is 'Available for everyone, funded by readers'. ....
... print edition subscribers like my better half who pays £52.99 a month. :(
