Is it true that public schools in the UK only serve Halal food?
No, at least I can be certain that my children’s primary school doesn’t.Is it true that public schools in the UK only serve Halal food?
Seems like you’re trying to get people stirred up.Yes Carl, I meant what school your young children would go to that is provided by the government. Thanks all for the replies. I asked because a politician from a neighboring county is in a lot of hot water for for mentioning the halal food thing and some other things. He has been labeled as a raciest and other not flattering things and is being attacked for his opinions. I was just wondering if he really knew what he was talking about.
This brings up another point though, if Halal approved meat is from animals that had their throats cut and allowed to bleed out, how on earth can that be legal in the UK. That’s right up there with trapping and hunting with arrows. I have heard that dogs tails can’t be even docked over there. How is cutting an animals throat and letting it bleed to death ok?
There are far more sinister things happen in American schools than serving halal food.Yes Carl, I meant what school your young children would go to that is provided by the government. No, not trying to stir things up. Just wondering about the issues raised by the politician that I read about today. We have Halal meat shops in town, so I guess that means we have Halal slaughter too. I didn’t mention Kosher because that’s not what I’m asking about. You guys seem to have a rule for everything so I thought that rules for slaughter would be pretty well established. Fox hunting banned, no bow hunting, heck even picking wild garlic seems to be limited over there. Regarding the tail docking, are you saying that the dog has to be a working dog in order for it to be able to have its tail docked? I don’t know how our farm animals are slaughtered here, we have Kosher, Halal, and everything in between. I would think that an animal with its throat cut would be a least desirable way to dispatch it. I picture adrenaline being pumped into its system and causing taste issues. Perhaps the blood draining out prevents that.Seems like you’re trying to get people stirred up.
Tail docking is allowed in England (my dogs tail is docked) but I think you may have to say it’s because it’s a working dog.
The vast majority of Halal slighter happens post stunning. So in effect is no different to most other forms of slaughter (except that a prayer is said).
You don’t mention Kosher slaughter, this is pretty much identical to Halal. Any reason for this? (Other than Muslims being the current bogy man)
Isn’t halal slaughter carried out in the US?
edit: non stun slaughter is illegal in wales, Scotland and NI. The majority (58%) of halal slaughter in England is pre stunned.
Kosher slaughter (Shechita) is not stunned at all.
Well that’s what the guy is being accused of, being a raciest. I didn’t read all of what he said but his point, I believe, was that a religious group has no business requiring everyone to go by their rules. Also, is it a race issue or a religious issue? The councilman was implying that all schools were being forced into using only Halal food. Based on what I have learned here, that does not appear to be the case. I only got wind of this case because the Board of Education for my kids schools sent out a message that said d they were supporting the removal of said councilman. Not my preferred slaughter method, but who cares if it’s done right. Meat is meat whether it had a atheist slaughter or some form of religious method.
If anything using it makes it easier for schools not having to provide separate meat for different religions.
As above, can’t help but feel such conversations probably stem from a racist agenda
Not entirely sure that is fair. I certainly did not read it that way. Whilst it may be seen as a "sensitive" topic it is, in my view, a legitimate question.Seems like you’re trying to get people stirred up.
Tim, I could go on for days about all the things wrong with our schools. Our public schools have been in a downward spiral for at least 30 years. Quite frankly, I thought it very unlikely that the UK, would require Halal food be served to everyone. As far as I can gather, in Europe religion and state run institutions are to be very separate. That’s how it’s supposed to be here too. There are far more sinister things happen in American schools than serving halal food.
The old saying " sort your own house out first " is about right.
My money is with most people stuck indoors this will have a short shelf life.
It definitely is a legitimate question. My local school board is jumping on the band wagon to remove a man from his position that is not even in our jurisdiction. Also, I don’t really understand why this should be a sensitive topic. Not entirely sure that is fair. I certainly did not read it that way. I was leaning to the safety side of US schools rather than the diet....however our tiny Island is my home and despite many trips around the world landing at LHR or LGW there is nothing better regardless of how other people paint it..Tim, I could go on for days about all the things wrong with our schools. Because many people just don’t like Muslims and seek to demonise them (and their food)It definitely is a legitimate question. For the record, I do not consider it to be a sensitive topic. I said that it "may" be seen as a sensitive topic and to some it will be - not me.I don’t really understand why this should be a sensitive topic.
