Blaser R8 Ultimate Stock Options

Hi everyone
As in the title I have an R8 Ultimate but I’m not getting on very well with the stock which I’m not getting on with very well as I’m pretty short and the length of pull just seems too long for me. Hence I’m think of changing it out for a third party stock, such as GRS or similar.

can anyone let me know if the inlet for an R8 ultimate is the same as an R8 Professional and any recommendations on a stock that has an adjustable LOP.

Many Thanks for any guidance.

Metal work will fit in a GRS, but not the trigger unit from the ultimate.
For the GRS you will need a trigger unit from a professional.

No, the metal work will NOT fit. The Ultimate has the same unit as the wooden models, while the GRS is designed for the inlet of the Professional models.

This is definitely the right answer, I had to buy the metalwork out of a R8 Pro to get my Utlimate to work in a GRS Bifrost

Very helpful, thanks for clarifying. I did think this maybe the case. @AnthonyR did you find any other third party stocks with adjustable lop that the Ultimate will drop straight in to.
Whatever it will be, it's not going to be a 'drop-in' solution, rather an exchange of the bolted-on parts. The receiver on the Ultimate is the central carrying part of the rifle.

The only exchange solution I am aware of are the carbon stocks by Raven Arms Europe. The other option would be to exchange the polymer pieces of your Ultimate with wooden parts, where you then also have the option of a thumbhole or regular stock.

This is one option. They will make the length of pull to suit. I had them make a stock shorter for me, because I find it much better for driven boar.

TBH your best option is to sell the Ultimate stock and replace it with a Professional or Professional Success stock. These you can order with a minimum LOP 350mm. This is not possible with the Ultimate model, which has a standard LOP of 370mm. Also the adjustable buttplate you can order for the Ultimate will only go down to 358mm.

Interesting option but then I think I’m in to trigger unit changes and new internals for the new stock. I’ll give the guys at Braces a call where I purchased the rifle from and see what ideas that have. If they have anything interesting I’ll share it on this thread.

I bought a Bifrost before I was aware in didn’t fit the Ultimate, I didn’t like the overly rounded and too flexible forend on the Ultimate and wanted to swap between both.

I bought a complete R8 Pro stock in less than stellar condition, kept the metal work and the trigger and then flogged the bare stock, cost me about £500 to do that.

You were really fortunate to find a stock like this at this price.
Here in Germany people are paying silly prices for used Professional stocks. You won‘t get one below 1,400 EUR currently, while you get a new one for 1,600 EUR.

I paid over £700 for the stock but sold it after I had removed the bits I wanted, the net cost was around £500

Be careful with what you read on here as ‘gospel’ - there are a number of erroneous posts which will end up costing you significant money if you believe them.

Would you be so kind as to share your wisdom with us? What is it that has been said which isn't true?

Please don't be obtuse, if you think a contributor to this thread has said something wrong then say so and explain why that is, these forums exist to help everybody.

I wasn’t being obtuse, I’ve been out stalking and don’t live and die by threads. I bought one of the first Ultimates in the country and was categorically told at the time by Blaser that a wooden stock would not fit an Ultimate action.

About the best option for shorter shooters is simply buy timber stocked rifles and have them shortened professionally to your required length.

I was talking to a guy recently that wasnt getting on with his ultimate stock and was showing me a specific carbon offering for the r8 ultimate. It wasn't from raven arms but was specific to the ultimate. I’ve had a look to see if i can find it but struggled. I will try to get hold of him to ask for you but i think it was almost £3000.
