Good morning all,
Im very close to buying a pair of Meindl Dovre MFS Mens GORE-TEX Boots online.

Q: Any advice on size. Should I buy smaller to allow for stretch or my exact size + socks?

Q: Any advice on best online supplier for price and free returns policy?

Thanks

I’ve had elbus pro and douvre extreme and after trying them on before purchasing just bought my normal shoe size.
A shame they stopped the Elbus the best boot personall.

Don't buy them, Meindl quality has gone to the dogs with the Dovre (see here: Meindl Quality Control )

Got a different model and they are holding up OK so far: Antarktis GTX | Meindl - Shoes For Actives

I was conditioning my Meindls the other day, something I do regularly, when it struck me that these boots have been a part of my life for a long time. I have three pairs. The oldest, a pair of Island Pros Gore-Tex are 23 years old. They've taken me around Mont Blanc, over the Alps, through the Pyrenees and down to the corner shop and are still at it. The second pair are Borneo MFS leather-lined. Had them for about 20 years and these are used as an everyday boot. They've seen a lot of work and have been resoled once. My third pair are Dovre Extremes. Purchased in Europe in 2014. I did make a mistake with these. After a good clean and conditioning I left them on the balcony for a number of days in a position where the relentless Aussie sun was shining on the rubber rand at the heel. This developed a few cracks. Nowhere to get this fixed here in the Antipodes so I filled the cracks with ShoeGoo.
Don't know anything about current Meindl production quality but the boots I have are working great, and hopefully will see me out.

Cheers

I have used the Douvre extreme high boots for the last 20 years and they are the best boots I've ever had. Tried Brashers and Le Chameau, but the heather on the hill killed them all in no time.
I average 6 to 7 years from them, and even then it's just the cracking of the leather eventually that allows them to let a little moisture in. I guess that's as much my fault as well for not religiously drying them properly and waxing them every time.
The hill is a tough environment, the heather is like sand paper, but they handle it very well and are still comfortable to the end. The 2 pairs which eventually started to let in I still use in the dry and they remain comfortable even now.
I get a half size bigger as I use thick walking socks.

Why would you buy a size smaller ? I have the meindl Dovre extreme and went up a size and a bit , even though they are naturally wide fitting. With a supafoot insole they are superb fit.
Go one size bigger.
I've always had meindls but recently bought zamberĺain.
Like wearing carpet slippers with leggings :D

I'm a size 9 and my Meindls are a 9. I wear them with a thick pair of socks though. Order your size, if they don't fit with a decent pair of socks send them back as boots do vary.

I've had Meindls for 25 years when I heard the rumours the quality had gone down hill. I bought a pair of hardly used Lowas off here, they leaked. I bought a new pair of Lowas, they weren't as comfortable as my old Meindls so I sold them and bought a pair of Dovre Extremes. They are on there second season and so far so good. There is still lots of stalkers and keepers who swear by them.
