Ok - so this may be an obvious question but I’ll ask it anyway!!

Ive just bought a 1000 rounds of GGG ammo. 600 x 7.62 and 400 x 5.56 FMJ.

I have no intention of reloading in the foreseeable future.

Whilst Im not planning to crack through the lot in the next few weeks - is there a value in the brass? And, if so, what would you suggest is a reasonable quantity to sell as a minimum and, if it’s appropriate to ask this question, what sort of value?

Thoughts and advice appreciated as ever!!

Do you know if it’s boxer or berdan primed? Some military style ammo is berdan which makes reloading difficult and most people won’t have the tools.

If it’s boxer, you’ll find someone to take it for the right price. I don’t think GGG is very desirable but you can still use it to launch a bullet.

If it’s berdan, I’d say it’s not going to be worth much at all as anyone who can reload it will know you don’t have many buyers.

I take it is also brass and not steel cased? If it’s steel, I’d think worth only scrap.

I realise I haven’t given a guess of the value, maybe £10-£15 per 100 for the 7.62. Less for the 5.56 and that assumes boxer primed brass cases.

Try and get a photo with a torch after firing one and post it up here. It should be possible to see if there are 2 flash holes (berdan) or 1 (boxer).
 
I have reloaded quite a few GGG IN 308 without any issue. If memory serves they were intended for machine gun use but seem to be pretty reasonable quality. No experience with 5.56. For boxer memory check - the solitary “o” in “boxer” matches the solitary hole in the primer pocket. Simples!

OK. My 2p. Please if the OP ever does decide to reload WEIGH the brass to compare the weight of a fired case with a fired case of sporting .308 Winchester ammunition by, say, Federal, Remington, Winchester and or Etc.. This is important for as others have said this is military ammunition and so will have usually a thicker case. There's nothing at all wrong with that except a thicker case means reduced capacity.

This must be taken into account when working up handloads especially as most of the USA manuals will have worked up those loads in sporting cases with thinner walls and thus greater capacity. This means IMHO reduce with most powders starting loads by a full 5% (or more if the manual says so) from the manual's given starting load. As reduced capacity = likelihood of increased pressure.

If however selling I'd advertise in minimum batches of 100 and for best results assuming all fired in the same one rifle offer the 7.62mm in but just two lots of three hundred at, say, £55-£65 including postage per three hundred lot. You can always accept lower offers if there's no movement after say four weeks.

I’ll have Sako and Federal brass to compare to as I also have a .308 rifle that I stalk with. But, if I’m understanding the data sheets correctly the case weight would be 14.75g +/- 1g but don’t know what you’d expect a sporting case to weigh - i shall rake the digital scales out!

All good stuff - everydays a school day!!
 
GGG 7.62 brass is good for reloading in my experience. Usually does 10 or more reloads per case without issue and shoots accurately. The only thing to be aware of is that the primer is crimped in, so takes more effort to deprime, then the primer pocket needs to be reamed before a new primer can be installed.

Indeed a quick zap with the drill and a countersink bit does the trick.

It’s good brass! Just need to remove the crimp, the Hornady primer pocket reaming tool chucked up makes this a quick and easy job.

Sell it by the 100, I think I paid £20 per 100 for the last 1000 cases of 7.62 GGG cases I bought, should keep me going for a while.
