Avon and Somerset variation time

I rang the above end of April to enquire what the lead time for one for one variations was, and was told they are up to date and doing Aprils as we spoke.
Sent my variation in and it arrived on the 5th April, as of the 19th April they had not even looked at it, I asked about the lead time now and was told another two weeks at least.
It appears staff shortages and or covid excuse again. So back to at least a month for what is probably a 10 minute job.

Hampshire advise me that its 8 weeks for a very simple same calibre 1-4-1 variation, last year they took around 5 months just to do a coterminous renewal that was identical to my previous one 5 years beforehand and even then I had to get BASC to contact them to progress it.

It is completely unacceptable that they can take so long.
A week turnaround should be all that is needed for a 1 for 1 variation.

I am not sure how much good that would do. They leave an answering message saying to allow a time slot, 8 weeks from memory for renewal and they say there are delays with variations and don’t leave a message for this.
No doubt Brexit and or Covid is the lame excuse trotted out when I personally have worked all the way through.

Dont even expect it to come back right, did a change of address recently and they forgot a gun and so I sent it back to get it on my FAC, took them 3 weeks just to add a gun that was already on my license and was their mistake.

Not bad seeing as the country was in a lockdown and people were dropping like nine pins to COvid.
In what way is that an acceptable excuse, a lot of police admin can and is done from home over the internet? May be having the kids at home or something on TV is too much of a distraction?

Or lying in bed struck down with covid.Might get easier if there was no paper involved and it was all done electronically.

Could also be with staff shortages they concentrated on renewals as they don’t see a variation as essential, frustrating as it may be when you’ve got your eye on a new rifle or something.

Covid only lasts for a few days, not 8 weeks and for almost everybody its nowhere near as bad as all the surrounding hysteria would lead you to believe - from firsthand experience!
