Not theoretically be done by a deer farmer who's an AW and is interested in hosting DSC 2 classes and sign-off's by using his farmed deer? just a thought to make the process easier and faster...

I think park/captive deer are now not allowed for DSC2 purposes

Are you suggesting that DSC2 is to be taken lightly and obtained on a whim.

Based on your scenario,

1. Probably no deer identification required
2. No stalking involved
3. Not sure the farmer could sustain sufficient numbers to cope with the 'throngs' of DSC2 applicants
4. Not the ethos that DSC2 is attempting to promote in terms of competence to stalk, shoot and prepare deer for food chain

So IMHO a non-starter

Your point 4 trumps the above, but imagine the fun!!!!!!!

I always thought DSC 2 was really about hygienic gralloching and safe culling, where deer identification and other aspects are dealt with in DCS 1.

No, its about Firearm safety, stalking, identification of beast, shot placement, reaction to shot, health of the beast (before & after) hygiene, etc, etc, etc.

I think shooting captive deer will not demonstrate the majority of skills required for DSC2.

Bang on, we know that Park/Farmed deer have to be culled but its only selecting the individual beast & marksmanship that is involved, its just not DSC2 material.

Was it not possible to get your DSC2 in a day on park deer ? I think a certain chap in Derbyshire used to provide this service ?

Yes it was done like that for many of the early chaps Dave Streton did alot as did many others. My feeling is that the ones that got there cert by this methoed missed out on some of the nessasary PC,s

Donnington Park is now just 160 acres holding around 300 deer which are mainly Fallow.
With that many deer in a small place there wont be a lot of fieldcraft skills needed to locate and cull a deer!

in a park you are guaranteed the deer are there
in the wild you are not
that is that
it is still up to you to locate and shoot a suitable beast
and in a fair chase park, it is still not that easy especially if the park deer know what is about to take place

I wonder why

guys/girls
stalking is stalking regardless
if in a park of 160 acres of fair chase or a single 5 acre field where there is always a roe/munty lay up which feeds out about the same time every night
if you hav an idea and can show your ability according to it
then what does it matter aslong as you can show and proove ability
as you can't complete your portfolio with out doing all 4 criteria's atleast 3 times competently

It appears that I gave a bit of miss-information there.
This extract comes from the Witness Handbook 2010

"Within a deer park the deer must be able to behave normally for the sex, species and time of year. They must also be able to freely move around the park and thus require a complete re stalk if they move out of range or sight or are frightened and escape the original stalk"
