With any re-introduction there are clearly going to be potential benefits and conflicts - a point made in both of the papers I posted.

I agree, but why put possible conflicts, barriers, in the way of an established, yet endangered species.

Salmon dont climb dams, they need water flow which in the winter spawning window can be rare.
The magnificent sight of salmon leaping waterfalls is usually in the autumn, some months before the redds are cold enough to bring on spawning.
