First gun advice, best quality feel synthetic rifles?

Thank you to everyone for the advice and suggestions.

I did look at the T3X but didnt like the feel, the Begara B14 stock was very flimsy on the forend so I picked up my first stalking rifle this afternoon which is a Howa 1500 22" Sporter in the HS Precision stock.

The stock is pretty solid, not flimsy like the Begara and a lot more dense and tactile than the T3X I looked at.20210817_163352-01.webp

Looks like a nice rifle you have there. It's rare to hear a bad word said about a Howa. Good luck with it. I'm sure that it will do you very well.

People say good things about them, I have a stalk booked in November, hopefully it gets its first notch.

Bergara b14 sporter ?
Very good value. Shoot very well. I have a ridge, the semi weight barrel. Tack driver and its a 270 ! Still a budget end rifle but better stocks than most including Tikka synthetics. Blueing is a bit suspect so the next level up with the cerakote and adjustable stock may be worth a look

I have had bad experiences with synthetic stocks at the budget end such as the standard synthetics on the base Rem700s. I have had great experiences with higher end synthetic stocks from MDT and Manners. I think it basically boils down to you get what you pay for much like wooden stocks.

These HS stocks seem well rated, theyre about 400 to 500 to buy aftermarket.

I had an HS stock on a low end Rem700. The rifle would only just make a minute with handloads. I tried it in a Manners T5 borrowed from work and I could hit 1/2 minute with the same handloads. Maybe I was just unlucky but I always buy quality first these days. Buy once, cry once.

I looked at a Winchester XPR in 6.5 CM today. It was priced at £525, which really is a very affordable price. I spoke briefly to one of the guys at the RFD and he said he could sell me a rifle for £1500, but it won't kill a deer any deader than the Winchester.

I liked the way it felt and although the synthetic stock is a dark green colour, it was not unpleasant to look at, and felt sturdy. When/If my variation comes through I could be tempted by this.

tikka t3

i have this in 6.5 and love it. had the trigger done on it. when i bought it, if i could all my rifles would be tikka.

The 'problem' with the alleged flex in the stock is a problem only experienced by those who do all their 'stalking' on internet forums. It is not a problem for those who own one and cull deer with it.
Not true.

I had a creedmoor 6.5 CM that was a stunningly accurate rifle in a GRS stock, Though it was great for the range I couldn’t get on with the stock in the field so a buddy gave me a hogue stock, rifle was still stunningly accurate and I culled hundreds of animals with it.

After a mishap with a buddy climbing a fence then falling on the rifle and snapping the stock (!) at the wrist I sourced another hogue stock on SD. Accuracy dropped off a cliff! So apparently some hogue stocks are perfect, some not so good!

My experience tells me to spend good money on your scope, this will hold its value more than the rifle. i was quite impressed by the Howa rifle. As a RCO I,ve seen them in several calibres and all seemed to work well all with plastic stocks. Good luck.

I bought a SH rebarelled CZ550 from my RFD as a bit of an impulse buy.

Didn’t have time for load testing before first trip to bisley so took the loads for my old .308, dropped 1/2 grain increments out of 4 up to the load to check for pressure and put a rough zero on at 100 yards. 3 shots in a bit of a rush giving 1/2 MOA.

Up to bisley on the Sunday and on stickledown, first 4 shots walking the bullet down the paper, next 6 shots giving a sub MOA group at 1000 yards. Rifle is sat in an HS precision stock so they’re pretty good as far as I’m concerned.

I also had a Remington VSSF .223 that I sold as I convinced myself I needed a fast twist, similar stock to yours I’d imagine and it was a genuine sub 1/2 MOA rifle. Apparently the guy that bought it from me is still killing stuff at silly distances.
