The modern rifle?

If I could only have one rifle and there were no silly restrictions I would keep this modern semi custom with a Border barrel and Timney trigger. What calibre? Can use it for smalls but it kills bigs just as well.

.222 by any chance?

althought modern Kipp can manage any ammunition R cartriges are the eay to go to me. and just in case the extractor fails your' hunt won't be ruinedCiao .
Ciao Motard, 2 Kipplauffs eh, you are a lucky man :)

I too love them, - Their lines, the lightness, the lack of chamber making them 3 inches or so shorter than a "normal" rifle of the same barrel length and being able to break it down and transport it much like a shot gun, are all such nice features. And for stalking, does one really need a chamber/magazine with 3-5 cartridges?
So if i could include some of the features i mentioned earlier (french style set trigger, wood stock but with elegantly made adjustable buttstock/lop and comb raiser) and i knew i didnt need the rifle for driven hunts too, then yes, a kipplauf could be "the modern" rifle for me.

It is just a real shame that besides the haenael 9, which i believe they do not make anymore, the market for some reasons sets the price so very high for the merkel/haenael/blaser kipplauf block/lock design. I think Hanael was onto to something, making a mechanically very sound kipplauf, but in a basic version, for under 2000 euro.

caliber, if we're staying traditional, why not the 7x65r :)

Hallo Scipio thank you for appreciating..Mine are one Haenel 7x57r & one Mekel k3 stutzen 7x65r. This last is a real pleasure to handle and also for eyes but had a real hard time developing a load with good speed and consistence. Ended up being knotted to Norma Urp and 204 and 165 grain bullet. The haenel, I had been lucky to buy mint in the original vide box, is all but fancy but from first reload had been so consistent and predictable the is now my chamois gun. I had been a present of my lady for my 70 years and can never part from it. Now if I could go back I would have choose the same 2 rifles but swapped the caliber between them. Here they are if you like to see. You are right abot haenel dropping the kip. Being in the same group as Merkel it would stoll the market for the costly brother.
