Petrol Panic Buying Observations

Stands to reason, as you drove north the population density decreased too.
 
can you imagine what the outcome would be for those m25 protesters if they blocked a petrol station:rofl: oh bye the way just walked the dog past my local petrol station 3 cars no queues and still £1.32 ltr bs
 
Went to Sainburys this AM for my fortnightly shop prepared to queue for diesel. only four cars in the forecourt, all pumps working a delivery this morning early. I filled up the Hilux then did the shopping. No shortage of anything, the carbon dioxide thing, no coke or fizzy drinks seems to have faded away. I came out expecting to see a queue for fuel as it's normally busy but there were only a couple of cars filling up, far fewer than usual.
Just goes to show what a load of panic buying can do, if everyone had carried on as usual there would have been no problems. Bloody media again!

Not had any issues either, mind you most of the Haemorroids have all gone back to their urban hell holes. Not seen a closed fuel station in these parts.
 
One thing I did notice was that quite a few cars were cruising at 60 mph - many more than normal.

I would normally do a steady 70 to get where I am going. Yesterday I was deliberately setting the cruise control at 60 to increase the mpg. Yes, I was on holiday so there was no time pressure, but it pleasantly surprising how many other car drivers seemed to be doing the same thing.
 
i managed to fill up last night after picking up the inlaws folowing a blow out on the a1, got half way home thought the truck felt wrong. nail in the back tyre!! one hour in the dark trying to change the blooody thing, should of been simple but just took ages

Probably not. While the population is obviously a factor, so is the mobility of local drivers, the cost of property, business rates, hostility of local authority,density of "corner shops" etc. In short, it must cost a sh1tload more to run a petrol station in the South East. This probably explains why they've almost entirely disappeared from most of London.

Because it is obviously more sensible to keep a full tank than wait for it to get empty.
This fiasco could never have happened if it were not for all the idiots who usually drive around with tanks mostly empty.

Post#112 FUEL. Still on three quarter full now, never have I ever run a vehicle on less than a half tank.

A tenner barely wets the tank is my point. 7.5 litres approx. You use 1 litre pulling in and out of the station. My lawn mower tank holds more than a tenner!
 
I drive until my car needs fuel (most warning lights come on at 50 miles), then I fill it, I don’t top it off at every opportunity. Don’t see the point, we have fuel gauges for a reason.
