Moderator for a 6.5x55

If you're happy with your 308 mod, stick with it, you'll not notice the difference in sound reduction.
I shoot a .30-06 and a 6.5x55. I use the same mod in .30 cal. It’s an aimsport or some sort and nice and quiet and very light weight.

I would also say I also have an mae t12 in another cal and nothing touches them for quietness in my opinion. But they are heavy.

ASE Utra 5 goes on my 6.5 and .308, lighter than T6 and 8 and very compact plus it lasts for ever!

Got a 6.5x55, 7x64 run them both on a 7.62 moderator with no issue, just use the same one as long as the threads are compatible.

Have replaced a Laurence Precision with an ASE SL5 very pleased
My buddy uses a lawrence precision, first time he fired it on his .284 I thought he’d fired it unmoderated.

Last time we were out and he was using it on .243 I asked him to remind me to bring hearing protection next time he brought it out.

I have 3 SL5s, they are great if you want a lighter all steel mod but the jet-z is better sound attenuation wise if you can cope with the few extra ounces.

The size of the exit bore compared to the billet directly influence the sound attenuation.

I run a .223 jet Z on my 25-45, it is stupidly quiet because the bullet is such a tight fit very little gas escapes past the bullet

Maybe if you carry a sound monitor with you. For the odd shot out stalking, why worry about it.
Because I value my hearing, every shot potentially does more damage, even if you only fire one shot in the day.

I also shoot on a range and do quite a lot of load testing.

My tinnitus disagrees with you. Often sadly at 1 am when it keeps me awake.

Always protect your hearing even with a mod I use peltor head set.

Hold on! I'm not suggesting you go around without a moderator. I also wear defenders if I'm at the range or load developing. Anyone that doesn't is asking for hearing trouble. The OP was asking if his 308 mod would suffice on his 6.5. All I said was, for the odd shot out stalking you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between his 308 and a dedicated 6.5 mod. Obviously, there's going to be a difference but could you really tell? I'm not talking about different makes of mod, just the size of the hole that goes through the middle.

Agree but don’t agree that a moderator is enough. Ear damage occurs with a single shot from a moderated rifle and we should be encouraging everyone to wear ear protection and a moderator
