I'd reckon Lord Dubs has never has vehicles stolen from his farm, diesel stolen and what remains left to spill out on the ground, or deer or hares lamped at night to be cruelly torn to death by dogs. Nor the bill direct and indirect for cleaning up public parks of human excrement, litter and dumped rubbish. Why? Because in an Ivory Tower such things never happen.

In his article he writes this, does Lord Dubs: Part Four of the Police, Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill will, for the first time in centuries, criminalise trespass. It will make it a criminal offence to reside, or to intend to reside, on land in a vehicle (including caravans) without consent. And it will enable the police to seize such vehicles. This means gypsies and travellers who keep to their traditional nomadic culture could have their homes seized.

I shall be also cutting and pasting the above and writing to my MP to say that I welcome such proposals and urge my MP to ensure that the Government does not allow "part four" as noted to be removed from the Bill!

As my constituency MP may I please, draw to you notice an an online article today reproducing what the the Labour peer, Lord Dubs, has written in The Independent he says this:

It will make it a criminal offence to reside, or to intend to reside, on land in a vehicle (including caravans) without consent. And it will enable the police to seize such vehicles.

I welcome such proposals and urge you, please, as my MP to ensure that the Government does not allow "part four" as noted to be removed from the Bill as it is examined in the House of Lords. This measure is long overdue.
 
Lord Dubs is a good guy. Came here as a child refugee from Czechoslovakia in 1939, and has been an advocate for similarly vulnerable people at ever chance. Most recently he was responsible for a programme to help unaccompanied children in the Calais camps, which the government shamefully didn't see through.
 
My response:

'I imagine everyone who's suffered the surge of crime, violence, and intimidation that plagues every area these people infest will be delighted to read this'.

Thankfully we don't seem to suffer the plague of other parts of the UK, but wherever these people do appear, they leave behind nothing but a swathe of unsolved crime, and destruction
 
Luckily he was writing in the Independent, which even fewer people read than the Guardian. Interesting observation: One of our most sanctimoniously self-righteous newspapers is financed by dirty money, and the other survives by slowly haemorrhaging a trust fund. if I were in their shoes, I'd cast fewer stones.

No doubt. But that does gloss over why these people are "vulnerable" as you put it.

I'm mightily relieved that the government didn't see through a programme whose main effect would have been to encourage trafficking, exploitation and exposure to danger of more and more children. Effort would have been better spent on encouraging the French and other states on their path to treat them sufficiently well that they're not inclined to risk their lives fleeing from the EU. I'm appalled that there can be such a stark difference for "vulnerable" people that they take the same risks to escape France as others had taken to escape Syria and Libya. As always, these people are heavily exploited for political and financial gain by politicians in the countries of departure. Quite revolting.

A lot of them are Irish citizens, thats if they ever registered the birth, those that do claim British citizenship often feel no affinity to this country, and do their utmost to never contribute or pay taxes.
They have chosen not to be part of normal society, but they want societies protection.

I live in a caravan , so Im an ethnic minority ? The only reason people discriminate is because Im a thieving , lying , scumbag.

To compare travellers to the plight of Jews during the holocaust is sickening.
These people prey on the weak, and have no concern for the law, they dragged a cop to his death , then laughed their heads off about it , familly members even tried to cover for them.
That should tell you everything you need to know.

Indeed, but I don't quite see how that principle extends to a 16 stone bare-knuckle prize fighter with an expensive caravan, van full of stolen generators, and large extended family of extremely physically capable specimens present.
 
As far as I am concerned, 80 percent of our traveller problems are not from the indigenous "British citizen" gypsy, but from the (and this is what they are known as in Eire) Irish Knackers.
These appear to be the almost sub humans that will invade a park and leave it like a council tip.
They are not welcome in their own country but due to a stupid law agreed in the last century we have to allow Irish citizens to come here and reside. This is not a racist blurb as I have many Irish and Romany friends, but they detest the "Knacker" more than a lot of us do.
Lord Dubbs would do well to go spend a year with them and leave his personal filth and excrement for kids playing in a park to roll in.
If they park without permission on private land, the law ought to burn their caravans and the £40k 4wd.vehicles they pull them with.
I would also apply this to home grown ones that break the law, as some of them will play the race card, if it's of benefit, and most will never pay tax.

By unaccompanied children, you're referring to early middle aged, illegal migrants who have deliberately discarded any travel documentation to ensure that they can lie through their teeth and insist on their "rights". Please, spare me the bleeding heart, there is an entire industry in transhipping such people and providing them with opportunities for risking their lives at great profit and negligible risk for the traffickers. Any accommodation of such activities amounts to facilitation and aiding and abetting before and after the fact.

These are not the Nuremburg Laws, Priti Patel is not Hermann Goering (fat as she is, she lacks however his charm unpleasant as he was, and I doubt has even half his intellect) and nor are the Chief Constables who will enforce it clones of Adolf Eichmann.

These are laws designed to enact a realistic and meaningful to them sanction against people who trespass on others' property (often through implied threats of violence or criminal damage) leaving behind in many cases human excrement, rubbish, muck and mess which then has to be cleared up at both direct and indirect cost to those who's land and neighbourhood it is.

To equate somehow the fate of the Jews on Nazi occupied Europe with the measures in this "Part Four" is either to wickedly trivialise the evil of the Final Solution or to demonstrate a need to have one's head read.

Those days are long gone for the vast majority of Irish people.

They are most often referred to as "Travellers".

Knacker is seen as a degrogatory name by most Irish people unless used when referring to someone's occupation from times gone by which is explained in this tribute.....

I think you'll find however that 'traveller' is a term used only by officialdom, as well as those of a sensitive disposition. The rest of us call them 'vermin', 'thieving scum', or even 'pikey'; if these are considered to be derogatory, I can only apologise.

I'm about as far from a sensitive disposition as you are from Éire, so there's no need to apologise because we don't agree.

Travellers are recognised as a distinct ethnic group here in Ireland since 2017, this is not a gift bestowed upon them but a fact that the Irish state has formally acknolweged since the 1st of March 2017.

Long before then lots of Travellers have done their culture and Ireland proud on the international stage, particuarly in music and sport.
