Eley subs arrrrrrrgh!!

Always use cci subs in my cz.452, or the stingers for close range fox work! Did try remmington once couldn't hit a barn door with them from a yard away🙄

I think I’ll email Eley to see what they say, I’ve certainly tried enough batches to draw a conclusion and this latest batch with loose heads needs to be brought to their attention. It is frustrating when you have a chosen reliable ammo and all of a sudden something changes to render it useless.
Never shot Winnie subs so picked up a box today to try.

If you’re getting loose bullet to case connection then that’ll be the cause of your low velocity problem as the very fine powder clumps up really easily when exposed to moisture in the air

eley ammunition isnt what it was 30 years ago i stopped bying it and went on to rws subs never had a problem with them in all these years bs

This is why people need to ask for 500 rounds (1 brick) minimum on your FAC for 22LR, buy about 5 different brands or more to test, but ensure that you go can go back and get the rest of the same brick that performs the best.

Using the Winchester 42gr subs in my 452, no problems.
Also used rem subs, cci hollow points and cci clean sub.

If your west midlands area happy to give a couple boxs of different ammo to try if you want

So how is it the same as Fiochi?
These Fiocchi 38gr subs are made in England. And the box & label look just like Eley's, and the ballistic specs are the same. I’m pretty sure that different markets will have different sources of manufacture, same as lots of other types of products. According to Rimfire Central threads, US made Fiocchi subs are rebranded CCI Standard Velocity.

Interesting the last Fiocchi subs I got were 40gn. In a blue/black box and performed very well.
Anybody tried the Norma offering?

Clearly made by Eley as there isn't another .22 ammunition manufacturer in the U.K. , well at least as far as I know.

This thread got me checking the Fiocchi .22 ammunition that I have in my cabinet and to my surprise it's made in the U.S.A. I had automatically assumed that it was made in Italy and never bothered to read the box before. It shoots fairly good but not as good as the Australian Winchester or the Lapua subs.

With you, yes they look very Eley.

Only ones I’ve ever seen look like this

Yes I bought 100 the other week, first 5 shot group was a single ragged hole at 60yds and I thought I was in, then the second opened up to an inch then that became the norm, some great groups mixed in with some not so good, which when pushed out to 85yds was highlighted. All prone off the bipod.
I did try a box of CCI HP a few months ago and as others have said they shot well producing consistent groups but they are so much louder with added crackers than the other stuff I didn’t push any further as I use my 22 in areas where noise can be an issue.

Yep their the ones I was using until the 38gn eley which have been disappointing. You would think Fiocchi would have done their homework given the unfavourable reports about eley 38gn before buying thousands or million of eley rebranded Fiocchi.

My T1x likes CCI subs but the last 2 boxes I've bought show signs of regular higher velocity in a few rounds, sometimes resulting in POI shift of 1-2" on the odd shot...most frustrating!

Thanks for the very kind offer.
The problem would be finding the same batch if one of your boxes shot ok:thumb:

As I say, the white box Eley I’ve tried has been good

The last batch of eley subs I bought are crap almost every 5 group gets a flyer or 2.
I need to start looking for another make now.

Never had a problem with RWS subs or Norma subs.
Very consistent ammo, I think they are made by the same manufacturer.

The only thing I have found with RWS is they seem to have slightly less poke than an eley, cci or win. Though I do find them very accurate.

But they consistently stay below the velocity that produces a sonic crack which is something you can't say about some of the other brands.
