Speaking of Montana, if you apply as a group, if just one of you draw you all draw, and yes points can increase your chances of drawing, especially limited draw entries, but points aren't required, I have been there 4 times without points and drew every time.
But a word of caution, choose your 'group' very carefully, it's a tough hunt and some don't have the correct mindset.

Is that the $1,089.50 combo deer/elk tag? It’s a lot of dough, but you also have to consider that it gives you access to thousands of acres to hunt on too.

Another thought just came to mind, SE Idaho has over the counter deer tags available too. First come, first served basis, there is a limit though.

Ha, the home of the Canadian Club tipple as I remember, I spent some naughty years in Detroit in the Warren area in the mid 80s, happy memories. Loads of my brit mates went over the border to the naughty bars at the weekends after slaving for GM/GMC/Chrysler/Ford. We were a 400 man group of contract car designers brought over from Europe to help out with designing smaller cars. In those days it was like being in like a regiment of foot.
