Anyone else seeing a frighteningly common theme when trying to buy Sierra bullets online?

Especially SP’s….seems like everywhere is out. I spoke to SGC and the lady told me if you want bullets in 2022 it would be a good idea to pre-order a few boxes now.

Luckily I found a few boxes locally so that will keep me going but is this the USA shortage now having a larger effect on the U.K.?

Just while on the topic - does anyone have any experience with the HPBT Sierra 130gr in 6.5mm? Just curious as they had 1 box of them left…(maybe speaks volumes!)
 
Highland Outdoors are taking orders.....

Its why handloading, and having enough components stored for a season is sensible.

We as UK shooters and stalkers need to understand we are a tiny market. We are going to have to pay more, and we may as well use local RFDs if we want to retain them as well.

Have McLeods got any?

What specifically are you in need of ?
 
Yes we seem to be heading into a dry spell as far as us components are concerned but on a brighter note most us outlets seem to be fully stocked now. Also I imagine there's tens of millions of rounds stashed away in private hands, I predict components and ammo will start flowing our way as back orders are filled.

Pretty sure that's the one that is a clone of the Norma 130gr GT. Sierra made them for Prime ammunition, when RUAG tried to screw them over, and Prime backed out of the contract. It then became a regular offering (of sorts, since the shortage has affected their availability). I'm still shooting the RUAG version (Brownells sold them for a day at the accidentally listed price of $110 per thousand, so I scarfed up a couple thousand). They shoot really well, and IMHO are the perfect weight for the 6.5CM. A good balance between BC and speed for targets out to 1200yds.

Yes, you are experiencing a trickle down of the shortage in the US. It will only get worse.
 
Things are slowly becoming available these days in the US, but the non-mainstream/non-popular products are still lagging significantly in availability.

Everyone is predicting by this Fall that things should start to go back to normal (especially given the Congressional Elections this Fall).

Don’t hold your breath on that. I don’t see any changes for at least 3 more years. I do have friends in Texas that say they can get loaded ammo. Here in the Northwest, It’s mostly empty shelves. A simple online search will show that there is almost nothing available component wise. Powder valley, Midway, Natches, Graffs, very little to offer.
 
It make a joke of the 350 million or so guns claimed to be in the USA when whoever (government? etc) turns the ammo supply tap off. Preppers might have something there.

It is deeply ironic that the offhand and half baked gun control comments by Democrat legislators and politicians has led to the other side of the American political divide deciding to buy anything and everything Firearms related in response.

If you had wondered about it, but didn’t have a gun before, you do now. If you didn’t have an ammunition stash before, you do now. If you didn’t have a massive horde of reloading components for the coming doomsday, you do now. Talk about incentivising the very behaviour they wanted to control! All the Democrats seem to have achieved is to encourage their political opponents to dramatically expand their armouries!

Anyway Steve Hornady has published some pretty straightforward stuff on their website about what they are trying to do to meet the massive increase in demand; one of the things they are doing is dropping less popular lines in favour of the most popular cartridges and calibres. Vista and Sierra will be the same.

I do hope things start to settle down. Doesn’t bother me because I have a sizable horde. One thing is for sure is that those militias mentioned in the second amendment are going to be very well armed by now.

Many gun owners here are preppers by nature and by necessity. For exactly your point; guns are useless without ammo.

Add to the fact that gun ownership, up until this, was down, but the number of guns sold was going up (which means fewer people were buying more guns). A lot of people are sitting on a lot of components. It's the unprepared and short sighted that are scrambling for ammo and components now. Hopefully they (like the last two times this happened) will have learnt their lesson, and will also "buy it cheap, and stack it deep" when things begin to flow regularly again.

American guns are anything but a joke.

Oh, I don't need to hold my breath, I'm well stocked and this shortage has had little impact on me.

As to component availability, meh, I think stores are a poor litmus of that. PV has powder coming up more and more, same with primers. MidSouth, Natchez, Grafs & Sons; they're taking back orders, and those are beginning to be delivered again.

JME, but the Northwest is particularly hit hard, because many there buy ammo, rather than reload it. Add to that, that many live in rural areas, when they do see ammo, their buying behavior has them buying up in bulk if possible. Just the normal spending habits of rural folks, coupled with a shortage.

Industry insiders are saying this Fall things should start to return to more normal, but as mentioned previously, prices will likely remain high for the near term, and possibly long term. Makes me glad I had the forethought to sock away 40k primers a few years ago, when components were cheap, and the market was in a slump.

If you ever wanted to arm the American public to prepare for a civil war or an invasion, this would sure be the way to do it. And like you, I have often wondered if that was plan overall. A cheap way for the government (either side) to get the public to foot the bill for arms and ammunition in support of their side. Kind of like when Congress used to give tax credits to the wealthy land owners when they bought their own cannon, back in the colonial days.
