Price of driven birds nowadays

Stalking is going the same way. The Scandi's are driving the prices of stags up. £750 someone quoted the other day (big beasts, quality ground etc, but still). £300 per gun per day to shoot a few hinds !

Now I don't pay anything like that but somebody is. I can't blame the estates they need to do something to make money and there is a lot of gear in Red stalking.

The demand for driven shooting has never been so high most shoots have sold next season’s dates so there must be a lot of people who aren’t put off at the price.

There is shooting to suit all budgets, I find the term working class laughable most trades pay better than jobs that require a degree.

Affordability is down to an individual’s perspective and circumstances. If someone wants to pay £60+vat per bird then I have no issue, you can’t take your wealth with and as you are only here once why not enjoy your hard earned crust.

There are plenty of keepers and hotels that are thankful that people do travel the UK to shoot driven game.

SD? Socialist Directory?

Just out of interest ( and with retirement looming) what does a beater and a picker up +dog get paid now a days

On a "Posh" shoot I used to beat on - Beaters £35 and Pickers £50.

So less than the price of a single fing bird...

PS

I no longer Beat there.

Beaters get £50 ,loaders £80 and picker uppers get £65 .I don’t think anyone does it for the money except if your fully retired .I do it just for that one day end of season when I get to have a crack at the birds and see what all the fuss is about 😁
Also do the ratting around the feeders after the season ends .

Loaders are paid by the gun at the gun’s discretion normally I give £120, a good loader often makes the day and cleans your guns, they commiserate and congratulate and make you laugh.

DM news today -
Lancashire Police, said: 'My thoughts are very much with all those involved in what is a very sad and tragic incident.
'One man has sadly died and a number of people have suffered serious injuries.
'At this time we believe the vehicle was pulling the trailer, containing a number of people (11) when a bridge gave way. Those people were then thrown from the vehicle and trailer.
I assume this was a driven day but news is still coming out.

not that long ago £1000 per day and night you could have a nice escort, bilingual who could hold own in any company, and could coax sperm From a crowbar, regional price variations may apply, book lodge for week and hookers, yeah haaa!,🙂👍. Never sampled myself, out of my league, in fact they would have to pay me!

I shot a 150 bird day this year that was supposed to be mostly pheasants which turned out to be mostly partridge, which i suspect came out of crates.
10 guns we shot 130 and the bill was £750 each. That is the end of my driven shooting.
The same thing happed to the cost in the 90s when a lot of city gents decided it was the thing to do, then they got bored and the prices came down again, hopefully the same thing will happen again.
The guy who ownes the shoot I pick up on was asked how much he spent on shooting in the average year, his answer without a thought £250,000 and he has just purchased a helicopter so he can get to shoots easier and quicker.

Aye, but folk now charge for vermin too

How long before fox and rat guiding becomes a thing?
The farmer next to my main bit of foxing ground charges some lads who travel about 90mins each way for the foxing. He had the cheek to complain to the farmer I shoot for about me calling them across the boundary as the lads were complaining they weren’t getting their money’s worth.

Serves him right ,cheeky bar steward .Charging for foxing ffs .I used to get paid per fox til I pulled the plug on that as it was getting stupid .
Different strokes I guess .

£250k is a spectacular amount of cash. But if he's doing a lot of grouse days, that could account for a fair whack.
Stick on a peg at the big boys shoots at £3k every week from Sept to January, maybe more than once a week, buying days for associates etc, and add in transport and accommodation, soon add up.
I'm glad to hear that folk with that level of expendable income choose to spend it on shooting.
