Foxhounds uninvited appearance

It's just a jolly out for them to have a good thrash round on there ponies my local hunt have lost so much land these last few years due to being arrogant and doing as they please and not respecting the farmers wishes

The hunt have just come through my village whilst I was walking the dog, nice sight to see but their arrogance does annoy me - the hounds went south off the Main Street and the hunt master thought it was ok for him to follow them along the canal tow path, jumping the double metal gates. Whilst impressive to see them jump, if my wife and young children had been on the tow path as they often are I would have been very concerned so I hope no one was injured whilst out for a quiet walk!

Oh come on. IF your wife and kids had stood behind the last deer I shot they would have been killed! I just love the good old IF, IF, IF!

Our hunt goes around pretending to stop holes but are in fact dropping town foxes about. Caught them in the act often. Wait until they go and shoot the fox . Idiots!

True…but had they been stood there one can reasonably assume they were trespassing…the canal towpath is not somewhere horses are allowed to be ridden and for good reason as it’s too narrow to safely get out of the way of a rapidly moving horse.

Edit - to add, I am not necessarily anti-hunt, I am undecided….it is a great country side spectacle to see, my daughter especially loves seeing the hounds, is it the most effective way to control foxes? Maybe, maybe not (I am in the fortunate position that I have never had the need to shoot a fox and since I can‘t eat it, I don’t shoot it). BUT this arrogant and ****tish behaviour just reinforces the perception that Tarquin PonsembySmythe on his very expensive hunter doesn’t give a **** about the general public, the laws of the land or the “optics“ of his behaviour which in turn can only reflect badly on all country pursuits.

If that's genuinely what's happening, why don't you report it? Wildlife crime needs to be stamped out, and the fieldsports community needs to be seen to be stamping it out, not turning a blind eye.

Yes needs reporting

Definitely. If they haven't got a license to release they are committing a criminal offence and should be reported.

Don't fancy a brick through my front window!

The village school just sent an email to say the hounds were at the school and running around the playground and school field - my daughter will have loved that but I can see some parents perhaps being less than impressed as it was at break time and I am sure some of the children were less than keen on lots of large dogs running loose!

In my experience (from 5 years old) the only problem the kids would have with foxhounds would be the possibility of being licked to death.
😛

I agree, my daughter loves seeing them and we have visited the kennels which she loves, at 6 she’s already decided she wants to be a vet. Not everyone will share that view, I am waiting for the mrs to get home to be amused by the ranting of other parents.

Such a pity that the children will never have the wonderful time I had hunting with hounds, snaring rabbits and with my Cairn terrier digging out a fox, all before I was ten years old. By 15 I was riding point to point horses out hunting to qualify them on Saturday and winning a lot of gymkhana events on Sunday with a pony I bought myself from my "Milking money". I used to milk 40 cows 5 days a week, starting at 5am and having a train plus bike ride to school after a quick breccy and change. Country kids today will never have those experiences, particularly following hounds and learning what it was all about.😥

It's a pity some of the adults on here didn't, some seem to think that the countryside is just there for them to go and shoot deer in

I was keepering in Rutland at the time of the countryside marches, Cottesmore country. I , with my then employer, organised two minibuses to attend. My beaters and I went, most of us shot and fished, some following the hounds too.
When the marches against the handgun ban were held, I contacted the master to see if he would reciprocate. His answer was,we don't use handguns so we're not interested.
So much for sticking together.
LOL! I remember when the houndsports folk marched against Blair's Bill to ban hunting, I was at my shooting club when a fellow telephoned from the then newly formed CA. The owner of the shooting passed the 'phone to me and put it on speaker for the anticpated amusement of the other members then present.

"Hello," he said, "I'm calling about the march in London against the Hunting Bill. Can we count on your support?"

"I can certainly assure you," says I, "There will be as many from our club coming as came from yourselves some years back on the march against the handgun ban."

"Oh lovely," comes the eager reponse, "How many buses will that be?"

"It'll be f**k all." I reply and after hearing the embarrassed silence at the other end I put the 'phone back on the receiver and go and have my waiting cup of tea.

You should have nipped him and pulled his hair

Sorry but where are these town foxes coming from, bought of the badger diggers most probably who got them off the salmon poachers, usual anti story, with story’s like this I bet your the most popular bloke in the village.
