Cost of 17HMR ammo

My son ordered 400 CCI 17HMR A1 ammo locally about 10 months ago at the then price of about £70 per 200 a box. It took them about 3 months to get it but when he came to collect it (admittedly the shop had kept it for him for a few months) but the price had gone up to £120 per box. He called Sportsman to see of their price was similar and they told him it was not available - any (polite) comments or relevant info please as to availability and price?

Your approximate location would help... no doubt your son should have picked them up when they came in, but it's not uncommon now for RFD's to order and buy in to find prices have increased at the supply end resulting in them passing on the costs... ammunition is even harder to shop around for as it can't be posted.

If you don't pay up front you are at the whims of the economy. If I order anything I insist on putting at least a down-payment against the agreed purchase price.

I squabbled quite a bit with one of the local gun shops that would ask me to pay full price when I ordered a gun that might be a year out of delivery. In today's world, maybe it's a good thing. ~Muir

Just so I'm clear - HMR ammo normally comes in individual boxes of 50, with a case being 10 boxes - so 500. I would expect £15-20 per 50, so £150-200 per case of 500. This was last time I ordered so if its now £20-25 per 50, it sort of doesn't surprise me.

I've paid up front in full for a bulk order of Sierra TMK's online. Speaking with an RFD this morning they're only expecting one Sierra shipment this year😳

God knows when they'll come in... 😔

At least you know what you'll be paying once they do arrive. In the meanwhile, adapt and overcome. I have tried to get .311 x 125 grn soft point bullets from Sierra for some time. I shoot Noslers now because they are available. ~Muir
