Gas for rats

I read an article Other day about some blocks you put in rat holes & add water to gas them, but can't find it now- anyone know what it would be? Cheers

Phosfide tablets, assuming they're the same ones used for rabbits

Possibly, I've never used them or bought them myself but they look to be phosfide tablets, my one concern is they are labelled as "repellant". Might just be a label so as not to upset the snowflakes, phosfide tablets are used in fumigation of warrens so not much repelling will be needed after their use!

you need upto date training and pass a test to but either phostoxin or talunex. plus the correct ppe, aplicater and test equipment thats been calibrated.
what ever you do DONT ADD WATER to the product, and dont use an already opened cannister.
it is easily the most dangerous product still on the market.
with all the crap involved in its transport, storage, handling, use and dissposal of waste, i got trained and gave up the idea.

its only redeaming feature is the fact that it wont cause secondary poisoning.

first gen anti coagulants or the new chalcicalciferoul are easier to use and have very liw secondary poisoning risk

i would assume they are permethrin or very similar synthetic pyrethroid. very low toxicity to mammal life, might kill a cat, as a species they are very sensitive to chemicals, but rats i doubt it would even aggitate them

I think a lot of what he said/wrote has to be taken with a shovel full of salt

I once made the mistake of getting a lot of alphacypermethrin on my skin, I was really rough that evening, nauseous dizzy headache.

was that concentrate? im sensitive to cypermethrin, got some on my face when the wind changed felt like bad sun burn. but as insecticide goes they are pretty safe and unlikely to kill mammals, im sure if you tried you could acheive it but a couple of gallon of water would kill you

Not so great (cypermethrirn) if you value aquatic invertebrates as the principal food source for fish in our rivers, but great for making sure cars get minimal bug rash in the summertime, widely available premixed in your local troposphere..

i should of used speech marks, pretty safe meant towards people. not sure if any insecticide is good for aquatic life or the environment.

Yeah, all over my legs. My own fault for thinking shorts are ever a good idea!

Plenty of lad’s used chainsaw engines with an extended exhaust pipe and extra two stroke. To smoke out rat’s for the terrier’s to catch. We used to dig plenty out dead. But I would not rely on it to kill on its own.

A phostoxin tab inserted into an orange and rolled down the burrow is an old method...other holes blocked of course.
Or a washing machine hose hooked to an exhaust especially with an old car that you can take the aircleaner off and then drizzle clean oil into the carbie as the engine is running,it produces smoke like a battle ship which will then show up every hole....if the carb mon doesnt do it the smoke will.
