The 'Lead Free' lie

so the government may conclude they should ban primers that contain lead as the relatively small group of persons using them may be at risk from lead. Yet every second the same government allow the sales to a very much larger group of people a product that is addictive and carries health warnings that it can cause cancer and kill you. 😡

so problem solved just put a label on primers and ammunition, warning this product contains lead and could kill you.

Could the very dense leaded glass in my 100 year old Ross telescope be harmful? :-|

Only to the deer!

Goes to show how the 'lead free' craze is :cuckoo:
Not to mention that many of our older water mains still use lead pipes! 😂

You can drink water from it but not fire it a deer! 🤦🏻‍♂️

Lead in metallic form is quite inert.
Copper is not! Copper is in metal form quite reactive.
I would rather have a tiny piece of lead metal residing in my body than I would Copper in metallic form!
Lead only has issues to health when it is changed into other forms from the metal.
Lead products surround us every day.
It's just hype to attack evil hunters with, the same old chestnut.
They will all be begging for a rabbit soon of us the way the would is going and won't care how you got it.

Show me a person that has been harmed by primer lead and I’ll support a ban. Same goes for lead bullets in meat.
Some range personnel and police instructors in Berlin, Germany claim to have taken long-term damage from inhaling lead contaminated fumes over an extended period of time. This went as far that there was no range training for the police for some time. I cannot say if they could ever prove their case. I didn't follow it up.

My uncle was admitted to hospital, aged 70, after suffering a stroke. X-Rays showed something lodged in the area behind one of his ears. He explained that it was an airgun pellet that had been there over 60 years after my mother, his sister, had shot him.

All this noise about something that is not going to be stopped!

So really its the same old speech from the usual people!

As gun / firearms owners we will experience a lot more hurdles to jump if we want to carry on in the years to come and those who dont adapt and keep stuck on their ways will be left behind and i am afraid its as simple as that.

Get your head around it, adapt and crack on!

As you all know, for many many years i have shot non lead projectiles through personal choice, it works for me!

Those of you who are dug in and dont want to change because your in leads done me no harm brigade , crack on 👍

We’ll see what happens when the ban comes!

i worked 33 years in the water industry laying pipes repairing leaks on mains and services all the mains in those days had lead joints in them and as tim said i wiped joints on services i bet there are more people drinking water from there taps and are still on lead services from the mains and when i was a kid out shooting rats and alsorts with my bsa airsporter where did you keep your pellets me i had a mouthfull of them i think alot of shooters on here are harming the shooting sport with all the things they are coming out with and dont get me started on these so called toxic bullets what does it matter if i shoot a fox with a "toxic bullet" it just pi**es me off bs

If man or woman wants to rid the world of toxic exposure then I suggest they start their quest with nuclear power, then catalytic converters fitted to vehicles and then tarmac, tarmac has resulted in many deaths and injuries from vehicles that use it. Ladders and steps, the list is endless.
If however man or woman just wants to give hunters grief then by all means keep beating the lead drum thing. The world will be transformed beyond all recognition I am sure 🙄🤦‍♂️

Spot on....

The threads origin reminds me of a job I was sent to many years ago as a sub contractor welder to a piling firm with a job in the East End. Get there early to fix it then the lads can catch up is the crack, not hard to find with a piling rig mast and union jack flag on the top so I drive past turn around and take up the space the lads have coned off for me as the site gates are shut. Quick chat with the driver (Dave) what is broken "gate latch bent to ****"
They won't open the gates before 8 Tim.. oh ok so banging on the gates with a hammer @ 7.45 the security guard caved in and opened them lol.
The straight out of UNI clip board tick box qualified site agent comes out of his office.
Welder can you come into the tea hut for a site induction, yes but my name is Tim not welder.
The piling lads follow us in as well shaking their heads, Dave said 2 sugars Tim? Yes please.

Usual bits of paper to sign as per normal, with a list of questions requiring written answers.

I asked the agent (after glancing at the questions) can you read the questions out to me please?
As I will be giving verbal answers.
Ok Tim,
What is the worst scenario with your welding equipment/gas bottles?

"Death" but toothache is close.....where do I sign please and can I get on and fix this machine?

So there is not much to worry about :tiphat:

I wouldn’t go back to lead for deer culling now! I use the Barnes lrx in .270+7mm rm and ttsx in .22.250 and they are great. Shot a lot of deer now with them and can honestly say there’s not been one where I thought lead would be better.

I'd like to see a scale of all the dangerous things in our daily lives, I can guarantee the consumption of lead in venison is way down the list.
I understand the point caberslash is making, if you want lead free then that means lead free, it's kind of hypocritical not using a lead free primer under your copper bullet.
I'm just waiting for someone to tell us we should be using silver bullets next.

The joys of being a welder hey.
For years no one was particularly concerned about ozone produced by an arc except maybe an aluminium tig welder but now everyone has to ware an airfed mask!
Some of my jobs would be impossible wearing one.

I work in a shop covered in stainless steel dust which contains nickel. That's as bad as copper in the respiratory system, are they going to ban grinders or stainless steel next? I doubt it.
But shoot a tiny bit of lead! Sicko!!

Yep on a scale of dangerous exposure to toxic substance or dangerous activity lead comes errr no where!

Sorry Tim, I have to query the truth of this tale.
Reason is simple, although I believe the sarcasm of a subbie, I find the Union jack bit not really believable on a piling site which would be more likely to be flying the Irish tricolour. In fact I have never seen a flag on any.piling site. So sorry Tim as they say on the show it's a lie.🤠
