Doctor wants me to attend a 'medical appointment' before completing police report form for renewal

Dropped my medical report request paperwork off at my doctors 2 weeks ago, haven't heard anything so phoned the receptionist today.

After some general confusion and faffing I was told that I need to book an appointment so the doctor can go through the form with me..... really wasn't expecting this.

Never been treated for any mental heath condition, never had any issues with depression or whatever, last prescription was for a painkiller 15 years ago following an op.

Anyone else on here been asked to attend in person before the form can be completed?

Many thanks

Maybe, as you've not been to a doc for such a long time, they thought it prudent to meet you before they sign anything. Sounds like good practice to me, and if you're sound of mind and all that, I don't think you should worry.
Be grateful the doc will even see you. As @mathieson said, think yourself lucky, they only do phone calls here.

Completely unnecessary. Med cert dont insist on it. God help you if your doc cant read and doesn't understand your medical records which is all he needs to look at.
However, I would think its just to meet and - if he charges you, you can counter charge for the appointment time mileage/everything else.
If you help him fill it in - surely he wont charge you?
It would be interesting to see how this turns out but if you have nothing on your record, apart from the faff you are away with the mixer.
Good luck - dont forget to wear your mask !

Must admit at my last renewal 5yrs ago i had just changed practices and had to go in.
Can't really mind much about it now think it was just a box ticking exercise, just a 5 min job and 25 quid ( which i don't really mind.)

I'll be due back very shortly be intresting to know if its changed any, same practice but its merged with the other 1 so no idea if any changes in policy, i would hope not in a rural area.

I was initially asked to make an appointment with the doctor by the Practice Manager, but she got that wrong. I put it down to me being the first to ask them.

I'd just do as they ask and go along. A good opportunity to meet your GP and discuss any concerns or checkups that you need. (Is your Tetanus up to date?)

I'll certainly let everyone know how this pans out, I suppose deep down I'm a little annoyed that they are wasting their time over this because last year I had a skin cancer scare and couldn't get an appointment for ages until I had a proper moan at the receptionist!

To be fair to the GP, he probably wont know I've had an FAC for 25 years, the form doesn't help as I seem to recall it starts off along the lines of "I have applied for a firearms certificate".... , not "I have applied to renew a firearms certificate"

I think it was £50 for my medical to renew my 7.5T license. That included the eyesight test.

You think that's bad, I got my medical report back and there is a note to say that I was treated for workplace stress/anxiety in 2009, 2010 and 2013...I wasn't and in fact I wasn't even in the country for 2 of the dates, but the GP is sticking his heels in stating that its on my records so he has to report it. The truth is that I was treated for Sepsis on those dates and hospitalised on each occasion so I guess something has gone wrong between the records at the hospital/s and those records getting to the GP. After 4 weeks of arguing I am 48hrs hours away from missing the 8 week deadline so have had to send it to the FEO or risk not having the renewal done in time. I am sure it wont make any difference but what a balls aching faff!!

I would write to your Police Force Firearms Licensing Manager, not the FEO, why because they would have to inform the F Manager in any case expedition is of the essence, set out your position, include a letter of Authority authorising the Police to access your full medical records, name and adress of your GP Surgery etc, that will be a good starting place

Why the worry??

Simple really

This won’t be popular but given what the Home Office is clearly seeking to establish from this requirement I was frankly gobsmacked that my GP did not wish to at least engage directly with me as part of completing the form. Not because my medical records suggest there is ‘history’ - recent or otherwise - to indicate the prudence of such but rather seek to establish what ‘condition’ I was/am in at the point of FAC renewal.

My point being, if you’ve not presented to your GP in 10-years is that truly an indication of your current cognitive function and health in general?

Just a thought.
