Compulsory medical verification (with fee) - Beds./Cambs./Herts now.

Can anyone do me a favour - just the cost of a phone call.
Can they ask the gentleman whose details are below, the cost, timescale, and likelihood of success of a pre-protocol letter (and subsequently JR) therefore for the constabulary which last advised of the change in medical process, assuming it was NOT more than 3 months ago - Gwent was some time ago but there has been a more recent one.

This number is for Deans Court Chambers in Manchester (specialists in Firearms Law.
The first point of contact is Mathew Gibbons 0161 214 6009 mob 07812 983 948.
WE need a chance to talk the through with a QC -'pro-bono' and will take a case if the expert advice is that a Pre-Protocol Letter is likely to succeed.
We would ask for a 'pro-bono' interview since the effect of this case would be so important, anyone who took it on and succeeded would establish a reputation second to none. So them investing a bit of time would free, for us, would seem to be a wise thing to do. Anyone ring and enquire please ?

I am happy to do it, you may want someone a bit brighter than me, but happy to make the call if needed

Peter Glenser, although his Linkedin profile suggests he is an experienced firearm QC, used someone else so they say (he was Chairman at the time)- I have posted the actual QC's name before, maybe we can see later if he resiles on his advice which no-one will publish, even in part. We shall see what comes of the initial Inquiry made on our behalf by ROB. If that gives hope, then maybe we start a funding website a la WJ and see how many will support us. I am hoping the answer will give hope and that BASC may want to save face and fund it ! I am in for a few quid if the answer is hopeful.

you have a pm.

I have started the initial enquiries today and must say I feel quite positive so far. Obviously No real answers as yet, but more an idea what I need to do to get some.

Rob,
I have replied with a few suggestions you may find useful. I'm here if I can help but thanks for carrying the baton forward. If it all goes like we hope there will be very many adding their thanks to mine.
Well done

Its time to talk cash - If all goes well, we will need a website which calls for funding - amount yet to be determined.
Clearly we need one where any contributions are protected - I can ask my bank manager but does anyone have 'inside' knowledge about how one can be created and the accumulated cash protected ?
I suggest we look to multiple signatures if that's the way it can be done one of who must be the 'commissioning' signature - it will be linked to debit cards so absolute confidentiality and the fullest protection must be part of the setup. A bank is probably the only way to do this securely so any experience out there we can start with?
If we move forward, whoever we need to pay needs to understand the payment mechanism too.

What about GoFundMe, anyone know how to set up anything. Come on lads any ideas. ????????????
I believe the the Team version of Go Fund me will work. It allows multiple management members and it does keep track of donations.

I am not sure what the rules are when it comes to allowing a shooting or guns related site. I am checking that now.

If you wish I will carry on researching this for the group?

Duncan

Any help at this stage would be welcome I suggest. JMO as I dont speak necessarily for everyone. Ideas thrown in or processes understood add immeasurably to the sum of collective knowledge we will need - hopefully ! Thanks

I believe the Go fund me way would be ok for shooting/gun related stuff. We did a Go fund me to help with the cost of sending my son to Canada for 6 weeks to shoot for Army cadets and we described it as a shooting trip. Hope this helps.

I would also see if you can get free publicity through the national shooting press, Shooting Times, Gun Mart, The Field AND the in house magazines of the likes of the BDS St. Hubert's, CPSA and NRA or NSRA. Remember that it is not just fur or feather shooters this affects but also target shooters be that paper targets or clay targets. It may also be worth contacting the cartridge makers too and the magazine of the Gun Trade Association. I'd believe that Go Fund Me would be useful. Also you need to set easily achievable waypoints for your funds. Such as "We need £X" to get an initial assessment. And that you need Y to then get a "preliminary" and etc., etc. Finally a fall back that if not all is obtained that the balance will be donated to, say, a charity or other good cause. Hopefully something like the Royal British Legion and not Help for Heroes.

Any developments?

As an ex-BASC member who left in frustration at this very issue I would be prepared to donate.

Perhaps it is redundant to state this, but FELWG think the pre-med screening implemented by so many forces off their own bat is a good idea that is performing well. They further believe that any amendment to the [currently draft] Firearms Licensing Statutory Guidance should be framed to endorse this (or a superior) mode of medical certification. See the relevant point in the FELWG September 2019 minutes:

What a pile of foetid, fabricated tripe.
