Well, I checked my FLD website a couple of weeks ago before printing out Renewal Form 201, and saw nothing.
Perhaps it was overlooked but I doubt it... as everything is interactive nowadays it’s hard to tell.
I’ve completed the forms now to get them in 8 weeks in advance to qualify for the statutory extension.
Just followed the same link, and found the dreaded words. I’m caught by my FAC expiring a few days into April.

My GP works in one of these vast conglomerate medical practices with a network of surgeries. On taking the medical testimonial form round the reception staff were nonplussed, as they’d never had one. I refused to budge from the waiting queue. Finally a senior receptionist appears to demand £40 cash up front before even accepting the form. "It’ll be 5 working days (if you’re lucky) as we have to enter the application on your records". When I checked later this afternoon, the practice manager has been mobilised to tell me that as this is non-urgent paperwork the turn around is now a fortnight.

Come on BASC what are you waiting for?

You don't think they're actually going to waste their 8 million on the likes of us, do you? That's reserved for all those expensive pitches at game fairs where they can swan about being all chummy with each other and dish out welcome packs to all those brand new sixty quids rolling in . . . .

It's gone up,,, have you seen the price of the new defender?

Oh dear it has the dreaded EVER word, why oh why are all the police forces implementing the medical reporting not talking to each other and using the same wording on the GP template letter. surly that would at least help when the BMA for example give advice to GPs across the whole country.

i think davids dad lives in cambridgeshire, maybe if his ticket gets held up basc will give a crap, personally im saddened that cambs have gone down hill i have had nothing but good dealings with them. id give money to lacs before basc. im sure david will be along soon to put me wright

I come under the same control area as you 'Sinistral' and I have to say I am ambivalent about this new addition to the information the Police Force want to have on record about me for the rare priveledge of being cleared to own and use firearms in our Fair and Pleasant Land.

Looking at this totally dispassionately 'The Powers That Be' are in a bit of a bind. They are trying (hard) to keep BOTH those - like us - that want to exercise this priveledge AND the doubtful, suspicious and even frightened 'Members of The General Public' happy and content that SOMEONE is looking after their safety in this (to them for sure) weird situation and request...

There is no way in this World or the Next that anyone - Medical Practitioner or otherwise - can say for certain that a person who is being allowed to exercise this priveledge won't have a bad day and go off on one, using his or hers firearms in the process, potentially harming TOTALLY INNOCENT Persons in their immediate vicinity before their excursion is brought to an end..

Thus our relevant Policing Forces can only apply this kind of related questionnaire in the vain hope that perhaps, just perhaps, the possibility of any relational type medical problems are brought to the surface and acted upon appropriately BEFORE amy such problems give rise to such sad and potentially dangerous situations.

I must say with hand firmly on heart, I am very glad NOT to be responsible for policing this kind of thing and for making the RIGHT decisions w.r.t. allowing continued ownership (or not) of our much loved firearms!!!...

That we, as owners and users are upset and suspicious of this kind of attention is also an obvious and no doubt thoroughly expected reaction, but Policing the state of mind of those in our position has to start somewhere and be understandable in its application.

Be assured, I don't like it either, but then I would rather be put through this kind of scrutiny once every five years or so if there is a chance that, properly administered, this form of medical scrutiny STOPS even one unnecessary "bad, mad day" with pure innocents being at the very least threatened and frightened for their lives, and at worst, injured and even - Heaven Forbid - mortally wounded... I just hope that, even with this kind of invasive scrutiny in place, another Devises or Dunblane type incident doesn't re-occur - which nevertheless is an unfortunate possibility!

If this is going to happen and it looks like it already has.Easiest thing to do print a form off make an appointment to see your doctor take form and get it filled out there and then.In this day of computers doesn’t matter how many times you’ve seen a doctor one click of a button they have all your medical records in front of them.

Bobby159 well said, I have never been against medical reports for the reasons you state, what I don’t like is the way it has been introduced in a totally random adhoc way that is not really delivering the benefits you outline.
By that I mean it needs the process to be nationwide, embedded in the GPs NHS contracts so your GP has to engage in the whole process, report and continuous monitoring of the firearms owners health.
using alternative GPs who have never met you and are unable to put the flag in your medical records that you own firearms is not going to deliver the benefits and could still result in the likes of the terrible incident you mention.

Just had to do this myself. Luckily the GP (for now) is happy to do it for a £25 donation to a local mental health charity.

Still, its an utterly pointless bit of gold plating that'll serve no other purpose than to complicate an already thorough and satisfactory process.

Just completed my partner Sandra's renewal for her FAC.
Kent are sending out a generic letter to give to your doctors surgery. She put this in last YEAR!! Had to finally go round to the surgery and complain about there lack of getting the report back to the police.
48 hours later we picked it up with no charge due to the time it had taken.

My only concern with all this is you have no way of knowing if the doctor has done their job, unless you check with police. If we hadn't done so we would never have known the letter had not been sent.

This form is the norm now in almost every police area been like that in the TVP for a while now

I've looked at 3 different areas now, and each one gives quite different instructions to the GP, and may effect the cost charged.

One area specifies going back on the records All for 1st application, but neglects to specify Renewal, another specifies ALL, and 5 years for renewal, and TV All, & 10 years.

This means the time for a GP to complete the information, could vary dramatically, and maybe the charges ?
