D & C Renewal update

Anyone else having a better time with D & C?

1 for 1 variation put in around October 2021, never received anything back by the time renewal forms were due in January so proceeded to fill out renewal forms, medical and post in via recorded delivery with plenty of time.

All well and good I thought, automatic 8 week extension letter received. This 8 weeks came and went. Followed by a couple of apology letters explains why D&C have been so slow and how they’re improving things

No problem I thought, I emailed and was duly sent section 7 permits to cover me for a further 6 months. The permits arrived only to find a O/U shotgun had been added to my firearms permit which I had never had.
A second email and a new permit sent out with all information correct.

Fast forward 4 weeks and a letter arrives on my door stating that they haven’t received my medical forms and can’t process the renewal until this is received. Another email sent to find out where it had gone, I didn’t fancy paying another £80 for the privilege of 4 ticks and a signature on a piece of paper. I was told that they will chase up a replacement from the practice so here’s to hoping that it isn’t much of a wait left

I done a photo copy of mine and sent the rest recorded
Hindsight I should have copied it, naively thought that being recorded delivery, I could check that it was delivered to the right place and once it’s in the system wouldn’t be lost

mm, if it was a private contractor for the government it would now no longer hold the contract . obvious to myself that the issues that started this was their own and they have not got any better .

My invitation to renew was 17 weeks ago now 2 weeks past my FAC expiry date. Now 6 weeks left of my extension. i was hoping that thing might have improved :-| Good luck

Not renewal but two friends of mine put in applications well over a year ago, possibly 18 months ago and still waiting for D and C to get their FACS processed.

Son put in variation recently for additional rifles, four weeks turnaround. Looks like things are getting on top of D&C. Lots of renewal correspondence as sec. of a local club so they are not doing nothing. Calls at any time between 8am and 9:30pm. Looking for a new rifle but will hold off on present performance.

I applied for my renewal in good time with D & C I am now on the 6 month temporary and phone calls are met with various excuses. the most frequently trotted out is " the pandemic" I delivered all the required documentation in person and requested a receipt. There was no one at Middlemoor who was able to check the paper work so I could only have a receipt for the delivery of an envelope. Very recently some variations have been dealt with in two to three weeks, I don't know if they are isolated cases or this is now a regular occurrence, what about the applications that are many months overdue. They only accept calls between 10:00 and 12:00, we are paying for this via the fees and our taxes.

"""Very recently some variations have been dealt with in two to three weeks. """"

I spoke last week with Dorset and have been told the same time scale for a variation.

My shooting mate did likewise, he's still not had completion although they have told him it should be through in about a month! It didn't help that the original recorded delivery was mislaid!
I always hand the forms in to Dorset Police HQ and ask the person in reception to stamp the date received on them.

The whole firearms process is now so appalling in certain places that you would have thought some Org or other would have a standard FOI request ready prepared to send to all forces - maybe it is in train and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Shooting will "light this issue up" in parliament, since BASC for example are unwilling to "go to war" over any seeming injustice/public safety concern.
This unacceptable situation needs complete public exposure especially after the latest shooting. I wonder what the strategy is to protect public safety and their shooting "customers" ? Applies both to our orgs and the Police.

Now 11 months into my application with DD&C. It's been received, they have acknowledged receipt, apparently it's in the 'to do' pile.
Understand they have had a series of setbacks in recent times with COVID and the events at Plymouth, but having heard I'm likely to be looking at 18 months is sheer incompetence as far as I am concerned.
