Pitsford Water

Anyone fished here before? Never trout fished before, got myself a spinning set up for the remainder of their spinning season and will learn to fly fish after. Anyone got any tips/pointers for this water? Any good marks? I'm a fairly experienced sea fisherman but coarse/game fishing is almost entirely new to me, bar a little bit of carp fishing in my youth

not sure if this will help but can you not get a guide to take you out? i know john horsey ( england international fly fisher) used to take guests out on blagdon, chew and i think pitsford. if not him i am sure someone similar could help, i know it will seem expensive but its a great confidence builder and gets you the basics of casting and an insight to the water and how to read it.

Fished there once, didn’t’ take catch any trout but did catch a 12 pound pike on the fly. Nice location and set up.

Used to live close by and fished it many times. I always enjoyed fishing the bays at the pitsford end off the bank, the fish were often close in there. If you are new to fly fishing you might find Ravensthotpe ressy just down the road a better prospect? Fish off the dam and you'll be into fish. Either venue just ask the bayliffs what's catching where and they'll point you in the right direction. Tight lines!

Good to hear, he always came across as an extremely talented angler.

I remember

John Horsey
Chris Osborne
Charles Jardine
Bob Church
Peter Cockwill

All being the trout fishing legends of Trout Fisherman when I was a teenager in the nineties.

Was just looking at the website for Pitsford and they seem to be able to arrange tuition from the Lodge, so it might be worthwhile giving them a call and seeing if you can - 1) get some tuition from someone who's on the water regularly and 2) see if you can hire tackle before you jump in and spend any amount of money on gear you may not use again if the fly fishing side doesn't float your boat.....
Good luck.

As 'LS' says. Don't over think it, put one of these on.....and no need to wait until September either..!😆

Does that help , when at least one of them is dead, and another is a chalk stream exponent
