Its not in the least trivial when you have one gender ( female in this case ) objecting to the appointment of the other gender to a position purely because of they perceive that the job should go to a woman.Agreed, with what's going on in the world , this is trivial in comparison.
Having unilaterally decided that the job should be gender specific, which is illegal, a campaign to oust the successful candidate is then pursued. The man has done nothing wrong, he is being sacked purely because he is a man.
Turn that around and object to, for example, female quotas in higher management and see how you get on.
