What’s sort of budget do you need to shoot Buffalo?

If you want to shoot a buffalo, all sorts of bargains are available. Just try and keep the fence and the eartag out of the pictures.

Now, if you want to hunt a buffalo...

Lots of suggestions in the posts above. One good area I know, wild, elephant and lion country, local tribesmen slightly on the unruly side, absolutely stupendous landscapes, memories of a Scot hunting elephants with a .275 Rigby lingering around, with people who love hunting and are not in a rush to get the next high-paying client in... That would set you back £15,000 to £20,000 with all fees.

I am a resident of Alaska. But you can’t use helicopters for transportation last I heard.

Cheapest option would be to hunt Buffalo cows in South Africa. I shot a female 2 years ago for 2500 dollars.

Just out of interest, I presume you have to stalk in to a herd to get a cow?

I keep seeing these very cheap buffalo cows advertised and am very tempted, but they seem too cheap to me! They are almost always in Limpopo province and are priced between £2,500-£3,500, which seems terrific value.

I had a look around a hunting property in South Africa a few weeks ago - not hunting, actually went to see some sheep there and whilst it was very nice, it wasn't real wilderness, although it was far better than the arable fields that I stalk roe on, just very similar.

It also had a luxury hotel and spa about two miles away and I don't like the idea of an easy ride, which that particular place wood have been, that it why I like hill stalking, at least you feel like you have been punished enough to warrant enjoying yourself!

Any buffalo hunting must be fairly exciting though!

Yes, normally a old/barren cow is selected from the herd. Most cheap cow hunts if not all take place on high fence ranches.

Thanks. I imagine though if the ranch is big enough, say 10,000 acres, you wouldn't realise it was fenced though?

They vary massively, some people are happy to shoot on 100 acres others 10,000. Do your research first would be my advice

I found an offer for a buffalo bull on a government reserve in SA. €7000 for a week with a zebra and a couple of impala included for the local community. I haven’t committed fully to it yet but am sorely temeted.

What Government Reserve is this?, it is illegal to hunt from national reserves...

Zambezi delta is good, sometimes end of season hunts are cheaper - but its not cheap anywhere - the Vally is always stunning, was on a 2 bull hunt there in 1990 (not shooting just camp follower/fishing) and collected croc eggs from A camp on the Zim side down to Mana.

Some of the provincial parks have hunting sections in or next to them, some in KZN do and I think in North West too.

My brother lives in Cape Town. He quoted a similar system running down there.

It seems the Parks folk are running a system whereby folk can pay to help complete the park's cull quota.

In terms of candidate quarry, hunter has zero choice. He is chaperoned by Parks team and the animal that needs to be taken is selected by them. Pricewise, very accessible.
