Good stalking coat?

Hello, I need a good stalking coat and trouser.
What brand would you recommend? Maybe realtree pattern too?
Thanks Phil

99% of my stalking is South of Oxford - a mix of woodland and arable.

I pretty much stalk in a pair of Fjallraven Vidda Pro trousers all year round, with either an old Cabela’s mossy oak sweatshirt on top in Summer or a Ridgeline camo smock in the Winter. I'll sometimes add a fleece waistcoat if it's a bit nippy. If it’s really cold I'll perhaps pop an old loden smock over the top.

If it's widdling down, then a pair of flecktarn Gore-tex overtrousers often come in handy, particularly if I'm in a high-seat or still hunting, topped with a Swazi tahr smock.

I do also have a bunch of Harkila kit, some Kuiu gear, several Musto jackets and a cupboard full of sundry stalking outerwear, but by and large I can't say I've ever noticed the deer really caring what I wear.

When I go out stalking with the camera I'll often wear shorts and a sludgy-brown polo shirt, which also seem to work fine.

What I do find really helps is a pair of thin camo gloves - it prevents your hands acting like warning flags to the deer.

Bushwear sometimes have some good sale stuff on Swedteam products. I tend to use their stuff mostly and it is decent and they do stuff throughout various price ranges. One of my favourite jackets is a Swedteam something or other which is waterproof, comfy, warm and quiet. Good pockets and storage, standard olive/green colour and was £99 delivered from memory.

Picked up a Ridgeline smock at the Gamefair this year. So far can’t fualt it. I like that it’s plenty long enough covering legs too if not too heavy rain. Trousers are just some cheap Percussion.

I have recently got one of these and it’s wet weather performance is amazing. Recently spent a day fishing in torrential rain, the ghillie had to change out of his Simms Gore Tex gear after being soaked through by lunch. I remained bone dry and warm all day wearing the Huntech Wetlands jacket and Shooterking Silva trousers.

I’m fine with the multiplicity of camo patterns that can be had in stalking-friendly mid layers, shirts and jackets but with the exception of my awesome but seldom used Shark Country waterproof camo outfit, I’d never be seen wearing them together.

Indeed I simply love the now vintage realtree pattern that is predominantly oak leaf in the Fall, and will be found wearing such a top in either all wool or the Cabela’s moleskin-like fabric, from now through to December.

Both my Wife and Daughter consider it something akin to an old man’s sad fashion statement. Note you can get away with just about anything in the Lanes of Brighton if you also wear a jawnty fedora 🤠!

The Op should make sure it matches his bino bra if disappointment is to be avoided.

I saw one of those Percussion coats in a gun shop a couple of days back and was quite impressed although I don't know how they perform but only £100.
Worth a look.
