What bipod

With so many new bipods on the market, what are you using and what are you considering?

I am back to a harris with pod lock. Having used the original Tier One and Atlas I am looking for a new one.

These all interest me. Along with the new Tier one and Atlas CAL.

I currently use a mixture ranging from Atlas, Spartan Javelin, Spartan Valhallah and Magpul. I do love the Atlas and Valhallah for the ability to set the legs at 45⁰ as that feature come in handy on a lot of occasions, something I think is pretty essential now. I love the lightweight of the Javelin and how it's not stuck to the rifle all the time so doesn't dog in or add unnecessary weight.

I'm currently testing a new proprietary design from Spartan, a sort of lightweight mini Valhallah/Atlas and so far it's pretty decent.

I don't think one bipod will cover all needs for different rifles and different scenarios.

Personally if you can afford to buy into the Spartan gear then they offer the best range of different bipods/tripods/shooting rests etc that are all mainly interchangeable and work with each other.

I just shoot off a bag now.

It will go lower than any bipod will, can be adjusted almost infinetly and it is always carried with you.

No loss in accuracy shooting out to 400m+ :thumb:

To be fair I haven’t been out with a bipod stalking for a few years. I’m just thinking it might be time to try one of these new designs.

Only shot on deer off the bipod in my whole life, but for target work I’m using Accu-Tac and and I found them brilliant…

That TBAC one looks quite interesting, shame its a bit of a lump and relatively short legs.

I go round and round on bipods, but keep going back to Harris 9-13. I like the ease of both opening and extending the legs. I don't like the fact it digs into my back though.

I've also got a Tier One, and I like that I can mount it on a picatinny and can have my sling attached to the pic rather than the bipod so it doesn't dig in. However, there is too much play in the legs (and the adjustment is extremely sensitive), and the leg extension/contraction isn't that smooth on one of the legs.

For me, the ideal would be something with harris style legs, with a low profile / out in front picatinny style mount that sits in front of the sling swivel.

To be honest on my hill rifle I'd happily permanently fix the bipod.

The Backlanz Notched (BACKLANZ®️ Carbon Bipod - Notched) looks pretty perfect for what I want out of a bipod, but no chance I'm paying £500 for a bipod.

I get the Javelin idea, perfect if you only occasionally shoot of a bipod, but alot of my stalking is on the hill, and almost all of my shots are prone and off a bipod. If Spartan can come up with a Harris/Atlas (i.e. fixed to the rifle, fold out legs) then I think they'd sell well. The Valhalla is on the right lines, but a bit OTT. From @nun_hunter 's post above, it sounds like something may be in the offing.

I'm tempted to try a UTG Over Bore Bipod but uk stock is zero, I do use an atlas cal and wouldn't be without it. The Ckye pods and now tier 1 bipod look very versatile but never played with one but for the money it should adjust itself!

For all things stalking I’ve got a Spartan Javelin Pro Hunt Tac which is pretty decent for shots out to 300m. Think it’s the longer leg version.

If I’m developing loads or just playing about and want maximum accuracy I put my Atlas CAL bipod on. That thing is super solid and can only imagine the Super CAL and bigger are just as good.

Check out Spartan 300. Think that was designed to remain on the rifle.

Running an Atlas CAL and a Super CAL these days. The CAL for competition, the Super CAL for zeroing and precision belly work.

I keep looking at the MDT Cyke bipods, but $600 is getting a little steep for me to justify for a bipod, when the Atlas bipods work just as well.

If it’s for stalking rather than the range why don’t you consider adding a fifth leg to your quad sticks instead as this provides an incredibly stable platform to shoot from. I’m an average shot at best and still managed to shoot this group off my quad sticks with an extra leg and without the weight and discomfort of a bipod digging in my back.

Same here, ditched both the mod and bipod for my stalking rifle (270). Quite liberating. Shooting off my rucksack is very versatile and quick to deploy.

(Still use both mod and Harris style bipod on the 243 though, for foxing and head shooting park deer).

I have really been around the houses with bipods and I’m more or less where I started, Harris.

Went to a javelin which I learned to absolutely despise. I bought it because I can’t stand bipods and shoot pretty well off quads, however doing a bit more hill stalking these days there is no doubting the need. The javelin constantly dropping the rifle on its side, and slowly lowering mid shot got old fast so I got rid. Sadly I’d had a permanent adapter glued into my £700 McMillan at that point 😩

Undeterred I had it removed and a picatinny rail fitted instead. I then decided to go cheapish and got a UTG bipod with QD picatinny, which I also didn’t like-forever adjusting the damn thing. Once again, sold it (thank god for the classifieds).

So I now have x3 Harris (which I’ve had to re-buy since I sold my original ones) with picatinny adaptors which suits ideally…thank god! A long atlas would be the best all round but I think I have spent enough on this particular journey.

Im not that impressed by my tier one, I’ve had to glue the carbon fibre cover back on the legs and glue the rubber feet back on. For a premium product it’s pretty crap imo! They make very good rings but the bipod is not so good! The customer service wasn’t that great when I told them the bipod fell apart!

Range prone its adjustable rest thumb wheel and bag , have a spartan not used it yet , nothing for stalking its off hand or B&Q quad sticks or trigger sticks if up a high seat/box

The latest Javelin bipods all have either fixed length level or notched legs and a wider stance too. Being a small company still they are able to take on feedback and improve designs quite quickly.

As mentioned the Spartan 300 does stay attached locked in place but can also easily be removed.

The permenantly attached bipods are more for police and military as their hunting stuff is all about super lightweigh and not being on the rifle. Not to say it wouldn't be used by a lot of people for hunting.
