That was the going rate a couple years ago here in the US...now that get's you a single brick of 1000, maybe.- can’t ever remember being able to buy primers at the equivalent of that price.

I remember buying primers for £11 per thousand back in the late 70's early 80's. The outcry from reloaders when the price went up to £12 per thousand was unbelievable.
I wish we had those days back again, my last purchase of large rifle primers a month or two back cost me £60.

Yep, I remember the Original London Armoury and the Southern Armoury (Tom Collins).
I never bought Vhit powder in those days. We used Bullseye, Red Dot and ICI Nobel powders (Rifle powders and shotgun powders for pistols). Vhit was too expensive.
P.S. I've got a vague recollection that CCI small pistol primers could be bought for £9 per thousand when I first started reloading, but because I was only starting out and only bought 200 at a time I had to pay the equivalent of £10 per thousand.

I can't see how. Someone holding a stockpile of anything has no effect at all on supply except to create a pressure to increase it.

Americans may stockpile and use more primers than we do, but look at the facts: most primer supply comes from the US. There is zero supply of British primers.
The lack of supply of primers owes nothing to the shopping habits of people like Marine PMI and Americans, and almost all to the drippy wet attitude of British people (includong most shooters) who insist on endless safety-this, control-that, ban the other, and then wonder why the businesses they suppressed out of existence aren't there any more.

By the by, Fiocchi just announced they are building a new primer plant in the US. Little Rock, Arkansas. No date announced for when they expect to be in full production.

Lapua are starting to build a factory in Europe to manufacture primers. Hopefully, they will sell as primers as well using them in their own ammunition production.

Yes, I think the industry as a whole has recognized the bottleneck in primer production, and are ensuring they are not caught in a crunch again. It's good for everyone.
That being said, primers are becoming more available here. I just ordered a paltry 1k of pistol primers (as well as 8lbs of powder), since they are still limiting order sizes, but they are at least available again.
As a side note, they were $95 per 1k (WSP).
