A6 Avant 3L Diesel fuel economy

Looking for my next motor, I'm eyeballing a few different cars. Estate, four wheel drive, comfortable, auto and a fair bit of grunt. I'm interested in what people's fuel economy is with the 3 Litre A6 Avant, you can never really trust the specifications of them. Only really interested in motorway MPG but any figures helpful.

If it's obscenely poor then I might look at something more sensible. 2L A4 all road, Skoda, Volvo etc.
 
I looked at one among the options when I changed car last year. To me (not given to slow driving), I concluded that the 3L gave very little real advantage in performance over 2L and really quite a lot more fuel cost. If you’re even thinking about fuel economy, then I’d suggest your brain wants the 2L, even if your heart fancies a bit of extra oomph.

Talking complete sense with regards to power and fuel. The A4 2l would be plenty powerful enough but the boot on the A6 is enormous. With it being in a large part for work (and stalking), the boot space for all my equipment would be a great bonus

I ended up with a bigger boot still and got a Skoda Superb. Before I started the exercise, I wanted to get a BMW 530, my wife wanted me to get a Merc E class, and I ended up preferring the Skoda - not just through frugality.

I’d suggest you take a good look at a Skoda Superb which you can get with 4WD, the largest boot, and a very good 2L engine. Or presumably there is a VW equivalent.

Not sure I’d buy an A6 2litre though

Large car that might feel sluggish with that engine

If you like driving then the 3 ltr would be my choice for the A 6 and the 8 speed ZF but your looking at the Bitdi for that

The A 4 all road looks a good balance of economy and drivability woth either the 7 speed s tronic or manual box (I’d check the auto had been serviced properly though )
 
My wife drives a 2016 Passat Alltrack. It’s the 240 BHP 2.0 TDi version with the auto box. Does 50 mpg on the motorway and I can’t imagine it’s much slower than a 3.0 A6 or there is much difference in boot space.

now that sounds like a nice motor, something like that will do nicely when my old RAV4 expires.
 
Best car we had. 2010 3.0 a6 a lone Quattro. Went past anything in the snow and when it had been remapped to almost 300 brake it would return mid 40s on a run. superb motors that only need headlight xenon bulbs and a thermostat it the 50k we put on it. Had done 175k when I sold it and the chap uses it to go to the Nurburgring, done well over 200k now.

I’ve had 3 a6 2L avants. Fantastic car, frugal if driven carefully and no way underpowered. Regular to south of France in one hit. Only real criticism was they like front tyres, mine lasting circa 10k but was doing a LOT of motorway miles at the time (55mpg too)
 
I have the A6 allroad 3.0ltr V6 Quattro 270bhp and its 30-35mpg Town driving and mid 40s-50mpg on motorway. Its a fantastic drive with loads of power when needed and very sure footed on everything I have been on up to now. The boot is huge.
 
So I got mine up to 40.9mpg on my way to work this morning and 44.8mpg on the way back.

This is my average mpg over the past week:

Maybe not exactly accurate as I had to do an emergency top up on a dual carriageway (so pricey) to make it back to a cheaper station. I added the 10.04L I used there to the total I put in today though.

This is all with summer tyres. I’m planning to put all seasons on, which will hurt the economy!

Have a Q5 with the 313 bhp engine

See mid thirties round urban areas and high thirty to low forties motorway / dual

Easy to drop below 20 in it 😂

Car is decent compromise bettween A 4 and the A 6
 
I have a 2012 A6 Allroad 3.0 and can get it to 49mpg on motorways at 60mph. Low 40s mpg at more realistic speeds, and high 30s on average with mixed relaxed driving. Spirited and round town driving drops the mpg significantly.
Do beware though that the boot is TINY for such a large car as it has cubby holes at the sides. I cannot get a rifle or shotgun flat in the boot without dropping the rear seat. My wife’s 2008 Passat estate has a significantly bigger boot.
