30-06 Too powerful for UK

30-06 is usually loaded so it has more energy than a 308.

As you can kill anything in the UK with a 308, like everyone has said, I’m not seeing the need for a 30-06 in addition to a 308 and a 270.

I provided a good reason and have a 300 magnum with open conditions fyi. But just wanting one isn’t a good reason.

These! Of which I have about one hundred. He may have a wish for ditto for fox control?

Would love to see how accurate these are.

And the ability to use 200 grain bullets for heavy boar. And maybe the OP has access to large amounts of surplus .30-06 ammunition at dirt cheap prices. Although the large quatities of milsurp WWII US Gov't and UK ".30 Browning" that used to go through auction dried up mostly in the late 1980s.
Is this a sabot round? How fast do they come out the end?

Yes a sabot. Supposedly, in .30-06 in a twenty-four inch barrel, they clock over 4.000 fps. I used them up to three hundred yards and they'll stay in the killing area on a large fox. I've never actually though shot a group once the rifle was zeroed. I might get around to it.

The accelerator rounds that I've seen fired out of a .30-06 some years ago weren't very accurate. Group sizes at 100 yards were about 5" or more.
.308win accelerator rounds weren't any better either.

I tried them out years ago , they grouped about the same as other loads in the same rifles . The only reason I tried them out was I got them at cost from the gunshop I worked at . An interesting , but short lived , idea .

Why should that be a limiting factor? That wasn't the rebuttal by officialdom.
It isn't a limiting factor, we have to show good reason for all firearms we are granted, from the limited info we have, we can write off the .243 as that is set up for NV, I could say .308 as target (or woodland stalking) and .270 for open hill. I'd struggle to come up with a reason for a 30-06 when I had the others

It boils my **** that there is so much inconsistancy within the licencing system, i have two 30-06 currently, feo didnt ask a question about it when i applied for the second, my reasoning was incase one failed or was in for repair as i guide so classed as a tool more then anything, also have two. 6.5s for the same reason- no questions asked, but then he looked me dead in the eye and said no body in the uk has a 375 conditioned for soley uk use with aolq when i asked for one - i know of two currently in my friend group who own such calibres and use in the uk…..

It’s a load of nonsense…most can see that.

Your reasoning could be so you always have a supply of ammunition, and you want to have a dedicated night vision set up (243) a lightweight stalking rifle (308) for woodland stalking, a heavier weight stalking rifle acceptable for all deer in the U.K. (270) and you want a long lasting target rifle that can also be used for all deer, boat and if it ever takes your fancy an African game trip (30-06)

You just need to explain why you need them and make sure you use the comments section to explain in detail.

If you still get a refusal - go and talk to your shooting org.

Gixer

You know 2 people with .375s who can use them in the U.K. What you don’t know is the good reason given for ownership. If your good reason is shooting big things in Africa, the police will give you a 375 and you will also be able to use it in the U.K. But you won’t be given a .375 just for the U.K.

Neither have in the past or have any intention of hunting overseas,
Initial good reason was boar and large deer apparently
