6.5 creed for Sika? (🪖💣)

Purchasing a new rifle and seriously considering the 6.5 creedmoor or the 6.5x55.. Have really took a liking to the Sauer 100 field shoot in the 6.5 creed, haven't really found a stand out rifle in the 6.5x55.

The only other caliber and gun that has caught my eye is the Haenel Jaeger 10 in .308

Will be targeting Sika mostly but do have a alot of permission for shooting Reds, just don't like shooting Reds because of they're size.

The creedmoor seems to have more haters than lovers without much background in the hunting department. Will also be shooting at the range aswell where we can stretch right out to 650 meters. Any advice would be very much appreciated!

Like @hendrix's rifle has said the creedmoor will take any size animal the U.K. has on offer. Be it a huge lowland red stag or Chinese water deer. It’s the projectile that actually does the killing at the end of the day.

The creedmoor and 6.5X55 shoot the same size bullet. There is nothing between them in real world terms ballistically.

You will find supplies of both in most gun shops.

Contrary to popular belief you don’t need a man bun to own and use a creedmoor. The online hate for this round is becoming tiresome.

The creedmoor just works. The rifles are mostly available. Just choose the rifle you want and then the calibre.

The creedmoor will work better with a shorter barrel due to its higher operating pressure out the box. By that I mean designed from the start to operate at higher pressures.

I own creedmoor barrels and .308 barrels. Also 6mm creedmoor and 6.5X47 rifles. I don’t feel under gunned in the slightest. It’s just nice to have options.

The deer in the U.K. aren’t armour plated.

I don’t know the ground you shoot but short .308’s are a thing of beauty to use. I’m talking under 20” barrels. With a sound mod on they handle so much nicer than a 24” 6.5X55. Worth keeping in mind.

Whatever you go for, choose the rifle you want and like. I guarantee it will put deer on the floor.

Like it or not, the Creedmor has “won” the 6.5mm argument. If you are intent on a 6.5 you need a very good reason not to go CM.

I have shot a couple of lorry loads of Sika with 120gr BT’s from my old 260. Big old 140gr swede loads are not a good answer for Sika. Some velocity is required.

I have seen and really liked a Bergara extreme hunter in 6.5 creed with a 18" barrel but was a bit sceptical of the short barrels, excellent to know this now tho as it is mostly woodland I shoot, cheers for the reply man 👌🏻

If you want to go short get a .308, you can burn faster powders for the same bullet weight and get better velocity.

Creedmoor does not do as well with a short barrel. If you’re only shooting sub 100 in woodland it won’t make a massive difference but if you decide you want to stretch out later on you’re hampering yourself with a short barrel.

The swede will do anything the .260 or creedmoor will do home loaded in a modern action and will be quite at home with 120 gr bullets.

I shoot sika with a Creedmoor. Factory 20” barrel. I started with factory 143gr ammo. This gave quite a slow muzzle velocity (2550 fps). Most of the time, that was fine, but occasionally I felt it lacked punch, and had a few runners in restock that I didn’t enjoy searching for. I was careful not to stretch the distance - kept mostly under 150m. Though shot some bigger animals at 250 or so.

Ultimately, I wasn’t entirely confident shooting sika with that combination, so I got a 6.5 PRC, which shoots at 2950fps. That is extremely effective, and flattens things out past further than I’m comfortable shooting.

I’ve now been able to reload my Creedmoor, and got it to 2760fps. Haven’t shot anything with that yet, but will be more confident shooting larger animals a bit further out.

Ultimately, it doesn’t really matter which 6.5 you get, provided you have sensible expectations based on the ballistics you get from your particular set up. I don’t really understand why people get emotional about it - it really is arguing about favourite flavours of ice cream.

Creedmoor or my 308. The Sika haven't been able to pick between them when I've shot them. Both of them end the same way.
Creedmoor I like the 143 ELDX or the 130 game changers.
308 - 150 gameking or SST for stags.
Jumble the above up in any combination of bullet weight type. It will still kill deer.

The gamechangers are an absolutely amazing bullet and are reliable at range. I absolutely love the things, it's just a shame they're few and far between nowadays!

I want to say I chronod mine with the gamechangers at around 2850fps or so, certainly puts reds down with authority
