BP buff

Nice Bull and a gorgeous rifle . I like the two barrel keys , the way the Hawken brothers made them originally . The wood is really nice as well . If you weren't on the other side of the world , I'd gladly take it off your hands . It would make a perfect Moose / Elk rifle .

Awesome stuff. How close did you get? I've always wondered how my trade gun would do with a .610" ball.
About 35m, the first shot hit him hard and he dropped his head but didn't move. Quickly reloaded and hit him again, he took off and got maybe 100m. It was a double lung and the heart shot.

At 35m I think I could do ok. A paper cartridge for speed loading would be quick from a smoothbore.

If you had a smoothbore good to 50m you'd do ok. Buffalo bulls for the most part aren't scared of people, they know they're bigger than you! Get the wind right you can move in quite close too.

My old man is going back again this year with one of my brothers, I'd go again myself if I wasn't trying to plan a UK hunting trip for roe deer. If I went I'd take my smooth 72 flintlock.

I'd take my fusil but can't find a hard case long enough fir a gun with a 41" barrel! A 62 would do well I'd think.

How about lifting the barrel out of the fusil?
For transport. 👍🏻

I know a lot of folks do but I have never taken the pins out of my long guns, I'd hate to enlarge the hole and have them loose. Also hate to see the rust under there!
Lol. They usually are not tight anyway and simple veneer shims load the wood enough should they come loose.
The few times for travelling won't hurt.
There will be little rust under there.
Wire wool to clean it off and a bee's wax/olive oil mix will protect it.

Anyway, glad you had a grand time of it. 😎
